AVSE was recommended by my cousin and uncle who successfully completed their TESOL course in Saigon, they said that the quality of English teachers from AVSE is really good. So, I took my TESOL course also and just finished last October 31. Well, I must say, it was a fantastic experience! From the Welcome dinner, City tour, theory classes and most especially the teaching practices.

I really enjoyed this course; all the staffs are accommodating and were very supportive. If we need assistance with anything, they are more than willing to help. The course materials are well written, clear and easy to follow. Our instructor Andrew made our theory classes lively and full of excitement. The warm-ups, speaking activities, and group works are very effective, it helped me develop my confidence in speaking in front of the class. It was my pleasure to work with such a positive, supportive, patient and experienced instructor.

I definitely learned a lot, especially when we had the chance to handle real students on our teaching practices. So, if you’re looking for a school to take up your TESOL course as well, I would highly recommend AVSE.

This course is an absolute life changer. I would like to give a special thank you to SJ and David for their warm welcome and guidance throughout the course. This course wouldn’tve have the same impact without them.

I enrolled with AVSE after going through a partner organisation I had found online so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. However from the start AVSE was incredibly great with their information and communication. Every question was answered quickly, although I didn’t really have any because I was always kept updated with information leading up to the course starting.

The accommodation was great and so close to the centre. The staff were also great at organising activities before the classes started to get to know the city and the other students. As for the course, it is definitely an intense 4 weeks; enjoyable as well as informative, and you do a good mix of theory and group work. What I found the most helpful though was the amount of practice classes we were required to teach. Although initially I was overwhelmed with the amount of planning and work to do in just a couple of weeks I made it through and without those practices I don’t think I would have felt anywhere near as confident as I did when I started my job after the course.

AVSE was also very helpful in assisting with the job search afterwards which was amazing. Oh and all the office staff were so lovely and always happy to help! I completed the course in June/July 2018 and even more than a year later the staff are so quick to respond and help out with any questions or requests.

If you’re considering getting certified, I would highly recommend AVSE!

Over this past month at AVSE, I have learned a lot and I truly see myself as a teacher. I was a bit nervous having never taught english, especially not to people who understand very little, but with the tools I was taught at AVSE and experience they gave me with practice teaching sessions, I was able to get a job before the course ended at a great rate and hours.

I took the course in July/August 2019 and I loved it – I would recommend it to anyone thinking of doing TESOL! It’s definitely an intense 4 weeks – but it’s still really good fun! They prepare you for teaching with lessons, help with lesson planning, observing teachers at the centre and then moving on to peer teaching, supervised teaching and finally unsupervised. I had Andrew as my instructor who was brilliant, and I found classes really enjoyable as well as informative, and you do a good mix of theory and group work. Accommodation is close by, you have different options but I stayed in a guest house which was very clean and safe and near to supermarkets, circle K, cafes, etc.

You start off with observing teachers at the centre before moving on to teaching your own classes –before this though the centre runs workshops to help you with lesson planning and once you do start teaching and are observed the feedback given by staff is always very helpful. Not only does it prepare you well for teaching, but the help with job applications is absolutely brilliant – they really know where to send your CV off to based on what you want. I had Mary help me with job applications – she was absolutely amazing, I had three job offers before the course had even finished, as had most of the people on my course, and I’ll be starting only a week after the course ended. I feel completely prepared to go in and start teaching after my observations and practises.

If you’re considering getting certified to teach English I would highly recommend going with AVSE.

Hi , I completed the coarse in March of this year and found it challenging but very rewarding . It is a very intense coarse but the tutors are excellent in helping you on every step of the way . Any problem they help you overcome it . Half way through the coarse I began to doubt myself if l could compete it or not but with the support I received from my tutors , I overcame this and went on to finish it . I now a teacher of english now here in Vietnam and it is great feeling to be a respected member off the community . The Veitnamese are wonderful people and I enjoy it here so much . I recommend anyone to do the coarse with AVSE , the support during and afterwards is there for you. Robert Wilkins.

I completed the TEFL course with AVSE in November 2017 and I am currently still living and teaching in Vietnam. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is planning to live and teach abroad. For me one of the most important things was the social aspect. I was quite nervous about moving to a country I had never been before and I was gonna be a bit lonely. Because you are with a great group of people who are all in the same boat you make friends instantly. A lot of people I’ve met during the course are still my really good friends today, 1,5 year later.

The other thing I loved about the course is the fact that you get so much teaching practice. I had no experience teaching before I started but after the course I was confident standing in front of the classroom. During my teaching practice I got offered several jobs right away and while I went traveling for a bit after the course, finding a job once back in Saigon wasn’t a problem at all.

Overall the course was a great experience and once your part of the AVSE family you can expect life long assistance, something that is really great when you are living in a country far from home! 🙂

My experience at AVSE-TESOL exceeded my expectations!

Our course instructor wasted no time getting myself and my classmates prepared to teach English. The time went by so fast. It felt a bit challenging at first, but it didn’t take long for us to see progress in each other as our teaching abilities vastly improved. This course was very gratifying and I highly recommend it!

While experienced teachers my hold exceptions that should be tapered for this field entry course, it is exceptional in equipping students with the basic tools and skills needed to enter the ESL field. I also took the Vietnamese lessons which were very helpful in being able to navigate exchanges with locals. The accommodations were nice and very close to the school. While I would recommend the airport pick up option for less experienced travelers, the local taxi service is a good option so long as the staff knows when you will be coming to the school.

Having a Bachelors and a TESOL certificate, the job placement was very short as I got a job the day of leaving the course with one of the top private schools in the country! I would recommend this course to anyone that is interested in an economic, one-stop-shop TESOL certificate!

My name is Olha, I am 29 and come from Ukraine.

As an English teacher with 8 years of experience I had a choice either to get an international certificate in my home country or abroad. I opted for more challenging and crucial decision – to do it abroad. And never regretted it even for a minute because the moment I stepped into AVSE it seemed like home. I was supported by all means and in every way possible. Just imagine, I came here, to Saigon, to study and also brought my family: my husband and my 2-year-old daughter so you can imagine what “stepping out of the comfort zone” means to me.

From the moment we went out of the airport we were met by the academic officer from AVSE and it was good that in the middle of the night and in a foreign country somebody was waiting for you and accompanied you to the accommodation. We lived in a western-type accommodation with all the necessary modern conveniences and I could concentrate on my studies without having to resolve the household stuff.

As far as the course was concerned, my wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable teacher, Mr. Lee Porter, was able to get me interested in English teaching again since after one taught for some time one can get a bit disappointed and less enthusiastic about all this teaching stuff. Apart from that, Mr. Porter is a person with excellent sense of humour that made our classes full of fun and excitement. From the first class I was able to get a clear idea of what was expected of me, the course was very informative and quite intense, I would say, but I consider intensity to be a good thing as far as one’s career is concerned. We obtained hands-on experience in giving classes without too much theory which for me was good because I had more than enough of theory after 8 years of university (5 years to get an MA and then 3 more years to complete post-graduate studies). We had classes with “real” Vietnamese students which is a very efficient way to get to know the people you are going to work with, get to know the cultural specificities and thus, adapt your prior experience to English teaching to Vietnamese kids. All the classes we gave were evaluated and the feedback was provided in a very kind, helpful, friendly and just way.

Regarding the lesson planning, a lot of time was devoted to it and the AVSE staff helped greatly in designing the lessons. I knew about giving classes to teenagers and adults and had no problems with these age groups but when it came to teaching 4-6-year-olds I was at my wits’ end and it was the moment I needed most help and AVSE teachers were always there and spent hours with us until the last student and until the last question.

Most of all I liked arts-and-crafts classes because I know how much kids love these things and how “hungry” they are to do this activity in English classroom.

As for the job offer, I completed my course on Thursday and next day I signed my first contract. My family and I were looking for an environmentally friendly zone for our daughter and we opted for relocation to the city called Bien Hoa, near Saigon. So my first job where I am right now is not far from Saigon and I can come there when needed. The Director of Corporate Affairs, Jane, was very helpful when it came to job seeking and I took her advice in choosing the job (I was offered various) and do not regret it.

I also had an opportunity to meet the Managing Director of AVSE, Mr. Peter Goudge, who was very helpful and supportive when my family and I most needed it.

Also I would like to express profound gratitude to all AVSE staff. All of them are excellent professionals and love their job.

I can definitely say that the experience of coming to another country and teaching here has turned my life on its ear but AVSE was always there in the moments of confusion and doubt. Do not hesitate to opt for this wonderful life-changing experience since you’ll be grateful for it.
