Because I had no prior teaching experience, I did a lot of research on online TEFL certificate courses before selecting a provider. Selecting myTEFL was the right choice. After completing their 140-hour TEFL course, I feel prepared to properly teach English as a foreign language. The course was thorough and well organized. It covered teaching fundamentals like classroom management, the ideal methods for instructing English as a foreign language, comprehensive lesson planning, and was a great refresher on all the English grammar rules I’d forgotten since elementary school. The curriculum builds on previously learned materials and incorporates regular tests to ensure comprehension. My only caveat is that you should read the quiz questions carefully before answering them as there are a few tricky ones that contain double negatives. The online platform was user-friendly and easy to follow. I work full-time, but taking this course was convenient because each of the sections are divided into smaller lessons, so it was easy to cover as little or as much of the course as I had time for each day. The myTEFL course provided lots of links to helpful materials and keeps a repository of many more that I am sure to refer to in future. If you are unsure whether to take the 120 or 140-hour course, I recommend going for the 140 if you plan to teach online. The extra lesson covered important information on peak times, free online learning modules, teaching company requirements, and more.
