Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

This was my first time in a Latín country that wasn’t Mexico and Antigua Guatemala and Karen surpassed my expectations. Not only is the site so amazingly charming and warm, but the quality of teaching that Karen provides to become TEFL certified is truly the best. She held us by the hand to help us grow into a valuable TEFL teacher. I would totally recommend Antigua Guatemala for TEFL, and no one else than Karen to be your sinsei for it.

Our instructor Audra was beyond incredible. We covered a huge amount of relevant content in a short amount of time, but she was so organized and easy to follow. She had us laughing the whole class day even during grammar week. I feel confident in my progress and skills because of how competent she was.

There’s not much provided space or support between ending the course and finding a job. And while Audra was a helpful resource, I felt the organization as a whole didn’t invest in helping me find work afterwards.

Overall a wonderful experience with wonderful people!

I have zero regrets taking the TEFL Hybrid Course in Antigua, Guatemala. I learned so much through this course and feel that it prepared me a teacher and as an individual.

Our teacher was incredible, the people who worked at Maximo were great, and the overall experience was unforgettable. Antigua is also the perfect place to get TEFL certified because it’s gorgeous, you can safely walk anywhere, and the people are so kind. I loved it!!

Pros: ***great teacher!, lots of experience, patient, encouraging, fun…professional

Lots of teaching time, observation and feedback

Challenging. Lots of course material to go as deep as you want. Lots of chances to be spontaneously creative in front of a group

Opportunity to live with a host family

Really nice facilities

Cons: it suddenly ends and everyone scatters across the world. I´ll miss my classmates

The TEFL program is very intensive but it is definitely doable if you are serious about getting TEFL certified. The content is invaluable and the instructor, Audra Wooldridge, who is also the program director, is extremely competent and knowledgeable and she will push you to you limit to make the best teacher out of you. She is absolutely amazing! Today, Friday, is the last day of the program and I already have a job I’m starting on Monday, thanks to all the help I received from Audra!

I am an educator in the USA aspiring to greater levels of competency in teaching all different types of learners, especially increasing foreign language competency. I am also a person who desires to live abroad for a time. I am interested in environmental stewardship, and Latin American culture. Finally, I appreciate when an organization can be both very professional and very human. Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica fits all these needs. My month of hybrid online/onsite learning has transformed my life and given me a greater sense of direction. I have been both humbled and gained confidence. This is a demanding course, and it is difficult to be in a beach town to do it, but it is also perfectly magical. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to challenge themselves and learn invaluable skills, at the same time as getting a dose of the pura vida way!

Joining the TEFL onsite program in Antigua Guatemala is the best desition I’ve made.

The course is very complete, and it covers everything from methodologies to tests. Taking this course will not only get you ready to be a teacher but also will help you get ready for interviews, and help you with contacts to teach all over the world.

Karen is an absolutely amazing trainer and mentor. She will be with you every day, helping you get ready to teach your mini-lessons or practical teaching. After each class (or mini-lesson) she will give you feedback to help you improve and become a better teacher.

Guatemalan students are great as well, being able to complete your practical teaching week with them is one of the best experiences I’ve had.

Everyone at Maximo is very efficient and friendly and here you will receive all the support you need to get started.

Hey y’all! My name is Gabriel from San José, Costa Rica. I finished my TEFL course on November, 2019. It was the most refreshing experience in the last year. I spent the most beautiful time with wonderful people, the cultural exchange was amazing, the classes were also excellent. Audra is the teacher in Manuel Antonio, that is a part of the country in the Pacific side, she lives in this stunning place where you can surf, hike, swim in the ocean, and learn how to become a TEFL teacher. So basically you will be in a place where the people is nice, you can have lots of fun, and learn with an amazing teacher in a place where the view is incredible. The course is guided to people who wants to live abroad, who is interested in having a good experience. My path in this journey started when I decided to sign with Maximo Nivel for the TEFL,and was the BEST choice. The people that I met there is this kind of people that you want to keep in your life because you are aware of their worth. This experience is for dreamers, agents of change. This can be an extraordinary journey if you want it. Please bring all your good energy to my country, we are more than grateful to welcome brother and sisters around the globe that want to feel the intensity of a latin country where the weather is awesome, and the people is warm. I could talk a lot about my experience last November with the best English teacher that I had. I completed the in person 4 week course in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. I stayed with a loving host family while there, and wow, what a great decision! The course is very intense and demands your time and attention. I feel like through this course, I’ve grown professionally and personally. If you’re on the fence on which program to take, I would highly recommend the Maximo Nivel program in Manuel Antonio!

I really didn’t know what to expect at first when coming into this TEFL course, especially since it was my first time in Central America! However, by the end of the fourth week, the overall quality of the course exceeded beyond my expectations. The structure of the daily lessons were well developed, concise and super fun! While you do have time to go explore beautiful Manuel Antonio, be prepared to dedicate time to this course. Since it is four weeks, it might be intensive for some people, however, Audra made the experience less stressful because she truly cared for her students and always made time for them when they needed assistance with really anything. Everyone at Maximo was amazing and made the experience unforgettable.
