Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

My husband and I attended the TEFL training in Antigua, Guatemala and had a great experience!

Karen (our trainer) taught us grammar points that most of us were needing refreshers on, game ideas that would work with all age groups and level, and supported us through a week of student teaching. By the time we left, we felt confident and well practiced in our teaching techniques. I’ve been teaching ESL for a year now and I can honestly say it’s thanks to this great training I received at Maximo Nivel.

I would sign up again in a heartbeat! It was a fun and very educational month!

If you are considering getting your TEFL certification, I highly recommend doing so with Maximo Nivel in Costa Rica! I had a fantastic experience with this program. While it was quite challenging, it was also very rewarding. All of the staff are so kind and there to help you every step of the way. My instructor, Karen Wilke, was very dedicated to seeing all of us succeed and was always there to provide support. With all of her guidance, by the end of the course I felt very prepared to start teaching. If you are considering this program, just do it! You won’t regret it!

Such an amazing, and gratifying experience that I will always remember. My fellow TEFL classmates truly felt like family to me by the end, and are friendships that I know will last a long time. The program pushes you for sure! But I think, credit to the instructor (Karen Wilke) and other counselors within Maximo Nivel, it ultimately brings out the best qualities of the students. Classes are taught in such a unique, fun and collaborative way that cant be replicated any where else. 10/10 would highly recommend!

I have absolutely loved my experience with Maximo Nivel! My advice to the individual reading this review, go ahead and sign up with Maximo. You will not find a company that is more willing to help their students and truly care about their success. I also want to give a shout out to my TEFL trainer Karen! I cannot express enough thanks to Karen and all the hard work she put into teaching us. She was always willing to help me and did so patiently. This was an experience I will never forget and I encourage everyone to become TEFL certified!

This course is no joke! It takes a dedicated individual to complete it. Without help from the awesome trainers that were provided, Karen and Kantuta, it would have been a miserable experience. Despite the rigorous course work, it was a rewarding experience. The dedication put into the course by the two trainers was evident from the beginning as they also demanded 100% of each student there. Karen and Kantuta made English interesting and enjoyable to teach and learn! If you are thinking about doing it, DO IT! The support you receive before during and after the course is truly something special and won’t find anywhere else! Oh, and you can’t beat Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica!

Fantastic course! While it was rigorous, it was super rewarding to have gained both tons of knowledge and solid teaching experience. The instructor, Karen Wilke, was an excellent teacher and demonstrated by example the best ways to teach English as a second language. Maximo Nivel provided a ton of excellent resources, not least of which was accommodations with a super kind and sweet host family. It really felt like being a part of a family! Also, the location was excellent. Manuel Antonio is truly paradise!

Amazing program with the most supportive staff anyone could ask for. Learning with Karen Wilke was an absolute pleasure! During the online practical teaching week I was able to set up an additional monitor to my laptop so that I could preform the tasking with greater efficiency.

I would completely recommend this program to anyone who seeks adventure, challenge, and the unknown!

I had an incredible experience with Maximo Nivel. The TEFL course is intense, but so much valuable information was covered. I sorely needed the review of grammar, but more importantly I learned strategies and methods of teaching English that can be used in any country and for all age ranges. The class observations and the practical teaching sessions were paramount to my development as a teacher. Special shoutout to both my TEFL instructors, Karen and Kantuta, for absolutely bringing the passion every single day and always keeping the lessons interesting and relevant. They also provided a ton of job-hunting resources and advice. My host mom was amazing and cooked delicious food. Lastly, my classmates were awesome people and lasting friendships were created. Absolutely recommend this program!!!

P.S. – Do not let COVID travel restrictions stop you. My program started in October. I probably had 3 phone conversations with my advisor, Celeste, before committing to the program and then another couple phone calls with her before flying down. She always had up to date travel information and eased any concerns I had.

I completed my TEFL course in May 2019 in Cusco, Peru. Sean was my instructor and he was awesome! I had no proper training as a teacher coming into the course, but I completed it feeling very equipped to start Teaching ESL classes on my own. Sean is excellent at teaching useful techniques, giving great opportunities to practice those techniques, and giving you useful feedback to help you improve your teaching ability. It was a busy course, but was all very fun throughout! During my TEFL training I chose to stay with a host family. While overpriced, I enjoyed the experience I had with my host family. Maximo Nivel was helpful prior to the trip and continued to be helpful throughout the course of the training. With Maximo Nivel there are usually lots of options to start working with them after you finish the course, which has its’ pros and cons. However, as far as the TEFL course alone (and particularly with Sean in Peru) – I would HIGHLY recommend it to others. It was fun, taught me a lot, and a great experience overall.

In March of 2020, I completed the hybrid version of TEFL CERTIFICATION offered by Maximo Nivel in Antigua Guatemala. Loved it! With the hybrid option, I did the first half of the program online before arriving. Then I joined 5 classmates for two weeks on site with more instruction and many opportunities to gain first hand teaching experience. It is a well oiled, well run program – beautifully located in Antigua which I loved. The opportunity (or rather the requirement) that we work with and teach onsite real life students made it fuller experience. We received lots of support and lots of clear feedback. The city and the students are wonderul. The program director and our teach Karen Wilkes led us through our excercises and material in a professional and compassionate manner. It was a great experience.!
