Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

This TEFL program was amazing! The location is in one of the most beautiful towns in Costa Rica so on top of getting a certificate, you get to live in an amazing place. The TEFL program helped me grow so much as a person and a teacher. I had no teaching experience beforehand, and now have a teaching contract in San Jose. The teacher, Audra Wooldridge, is one of the best teachers I have ever had and she truly loves what she does. Highly recommend this program because of the contact and the teacher!

This course far exceeded my expectations going into the program. I had been to Maximo 5 years before in 2014 to volunteer and because of how well run the organization is and how lovely a country Guatemala is, I decided to come back and complete my TEFL certification. Karen Wilke is the TEFL trainer and she was such a competent teacher and amazing person. The course was so well designed that each module built upon the previous one. Karen, herself, utilized all the techniques and methodologies she was teaching us and gave very detailed feedback so we could all progress as ESL teachers. Karen is such a wonderful inspiring person and it was a pleasure to go to her class everyday. The staff at Maximo is so attentive to all their clients. Most Maximo team members know all the clients’ names and regularly check in to see if they can do anything to help. My accommodation, La Casita de Gloria, was beautiful, a nice b & b run by a mother and daughter. It was clean, had amazing food, and possibly the strongest wifi in Guatemala! I would highly reccommend this program.

The Maximo Nivel TEFL course in Guatemala is a great way to kickstart a career teaching English. The 150 hour course includes lots of theoretical learning, but also provides an opportunity for practical teaching. Taking charge of a real classroom is invaluable experience and a great item to be able to list on a resume. Maximo is an established language school that understands what students need to effectively learn English (or Spanish), and subsequently what teachers need in order to be able to provide students with a worthy experience. Karen Wilke was a fantastic instructor. She knows the material inside out, could write books on her experience teaching, and is a great motivator and teammate. She is really on your side when you are taking the course. Guatemala is an amazing country, and the TEFL course in Antigua is a great way to experience a new part of the world while achieving something constructive for yourself.

What a wonderful and insightful program. I have never been so fascinated by a subject! I love teaching, and Maximo Nivel fostered that love for teaching in me. Audra Wooldridge is a wonderful instructor with great charisma and a talent for teaching and explaining concepts very clearly. You don’t realize that she teaches you subliminally how she wants you to teach your students. It was amazing how much I learned about myself and teaching English in just a month, but I could not recommend this program enough. Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica was just a blast. I have made wonderful friends who I will cherish for a lifetime!

This was by far my best month of 2019.

I came to Costa Rica to improve and boost my teaching career, and Audra Wooldridge has definetely helped me with that. I now know that I need to improve on, teaching in general, and I also know that I want to teach every single day for the rest of my life.

Everything was pure quality, and I have had an amazing experience.

I enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone looking to get this certificate. Our TEFL Trainer, Karen Wilke was very knowledgeable and a caring person. She always made us feel comfortable and was wiilling to do anything to help. the location is very beautiful and fantastic weather everyday. Practical teachings were haunting in the beginning but all that training came into effect once I was in the classroom with the students. Students were very polite and friendly towards me.

This course was incredible. Audra Wooldridge is a fantastic instructor she is knowledgable, qualified, experienced and freakin hilarious person. You’ll love her! Her fun stories, games, and examples make any boring grammar topic into a dynamic class. She is approachable, accessible and always willing to help. She has taken the course so many times that she has felt exactly what it’s like to be a TEFL student and so she always knows the perfect thing to say or do to help.

The teaching experience is fantastic. During Practical Teaching Week, students teach one hour classes to the same students, five days in a row. This was crazy invaluable because I gained so much confidence teaching real people wanting to learn English. 1000% would recommend. You will fall in love with teaching.

Antigua is a hidden gem of a city and who knows how long it will stay a hidden gem. It is a cool colonial town about an hour outside of the capital of Guatemala City. Guatemala is also rich with Mayan culture, Mayan ruins, mountains, and natural beauty.

The 150 hour TEFL course through Maximo Nivel in Antigua is really done well. You get everything you need to prepare you to teach English to people learning English. Karen is a great teacher. The two things that set this specific program apart from others are the practical teaching the final week where you are teaching real-life learners in a real-life school, and the job-finding assistance during and after the course.

If you are considering a TEFL certification you should definitely think about this program.

I had wanted to do the TEFL course for a long time and had always procrastinated in doing so. However, I finally managed to get over it and enrolled onto the July to August 2019 TEFL Course at Maximo Nivel in Antigua. The course by far exceeded my expectations and I learnt so much more than I ever thought possible. The guidance was spot on and was very consistent throughout. Karen the TEFL trainer has been a huge support, was always working and always helping out whenever she could. I can’t thank the Maximo Nivel Team enough and for what they have done for me. It’s still early days for me on this teaching journey but the foundation I have for myself I believe is strong now solely due to Maximo Nivel and I look forward to everything that’s ahead of me on this journey. The TEFL program at Maximo was a dream. Truly. It was intensive, no doubt, but I got so much out of the program. As someone who has taught English in the US (non-ESL) for five years, I found that there was still a lot that I learned in this course.

Karen Wilke, our TEFL instructor gave 110%, always providing plenty of office hours, very helpful feedback, advice, and access even when office hours were over. Karen had the perfect mix of being an expert in the field of TEFL, while also having a wonderful energy and sense of humor. Karen took a subject that could have been very dry and made it exciting, invigorating, and something I looked forward to attending every day. I can’t say enough kind words about my experience in this class.

Additionally, Maximo as an organization was filled with incredibly helpful and friendly people. It felt like a family that I was temporarily a part of. This is not something I take lightly, and it made me feel comfortable in a country where I was not familiar and did not speak the language.

I can’t recommend Karen and Maximo Nivel enough!
