AVSE isn’t a normal TESOL course. What stands out about AVSE is that you’re given hands on experience to test and develop your abilities. The instructors are lively and entertaining. They find ways to use exactly what they are teaching in order to teach you the course. In a way, the entire thing is like an ESL observation.

AVSE gives you 6 opportunities to develop your lesson plan and then present it in front of real students of all ages, types, and skill levels. And they do not go easy on you. By the end of the course, you should have the confidence to take the experience and knowledge you’ve gathered from the AVSE course.

I choose AVSE amongst the bewildering array of choices on the recommendation of a friend and I am very happy that I did.

The staff were knowledgable and responsive – I felt they were genuinely invested in our success.

The facilities, accommodation and practical teaching experiences were well planned to shift us from our primarily first world expectations of an academic environment to the reality of the range of Vietnamese TEFL classrooms.

I felt the course did a good job of preparing me for TEFL teaching in Vietnam and other countries.

Attending the course in Vietnam, also introduced me to a diverse and vibrant group of my fellow students, which was one of the highlights of the experience.

I would recommend this course to anyone considering doing a tefl.

Prior to commencing my TESOL in-house course I briefly considered going the online route, but I am thrilled that I didn’t. The in-house course was so beneficial, as it was hands-on, practical and very interactive. I enjoyed and really benefitted from all the teacher observations and teaching practicals. It also a provided an environment to meet other students and build up a network of friends and fellow want-to-be ESL teachers.

I utilised the AVSE option of accommodation, which was conveniently located within walking distance to the school. The school also provided guidance and a map of restaurants, shops & ATM’s within the close vicinity. This made moving and settling into a new and busy city so much easier.

So, I never write online reviews but I just graduated from AVSE and must write something on this website because I used it a lot while I was researching schools. My experience at AVSE was fantastic! Each instructor had a great sense of humor which made every class a joy. I had no previous teaching experience and yet the instructors had an impressive way of simplifying everything from educational theories to classroom management strategies. I started the course a little apprehensive about my abilities, but now I am not only employed but confident in my effectiveness and thriving. Furthermore, AVSE fosters an awesome culture not only academically but socially as well. There were only 15 people in my class which maintained a quality learning expereince, but there were 3 other classes happening simultaneously… in other words, I met a ton of people very fast! Most of them had moved to Vietnam alone, like myself, which made the friend-making process seamless, and that in it itself was worth its weight in gold. We all still get together on a weekly basis. One thing that really reinforced our rapid bonding was the AVSE staff. I was surprised to learn that AVSE is also an English school for local Vietnamese people, and those classes are largely taught by teachers who are Vietnamese yet fluent in English, and they provided incredible feedback about our teaching styles, as well as about Vietnamese culture and how one might most effectively teach Vietnamese people, and these authentic interactions gave my fellow classmates and I an immediate window into proper local life and everyone always had a ton to talk about! Whether it was finding a job, finding a motorbike, or figuring out the weird work visa laws, the AVSE staff was ideal. I would highly recommend the school to anyone interested in getting their TEFL!!

I have honestly had the most amazing experience with AVSE-TESOL in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam throughout May 2017 completing the Australian Government accredited teacher training program.

By the end of the month-long course I felt sufficiently confident and well equipped to take on a paid ESL teaching job and to top it all off, I’ve acquired over 40 new life-long friends (TESOL classmates) from all corners of the world.

AVSE-TESOL definitely deserves a 10/10 score rating!

When choosing a school to complete your TESOL, you may come across many shady establishments and organisations who are only out to make a quick buck. AVSE (Australia-Vietnam School of English) is not one of those. I only add this because a few months ago I was scouring the internet for reviews on places and it put me at ease to see so many positive reviews. You can rest assured that this is not only a legitimate school, but one of the best schools. When my wife and I arrived in Vietnam and started the TESOL course with AVSE, we weren’t teachers. We had never been in a classroom before and we had no idea what to expect. AVSE will prepare you. They will prepare you to teach kids and adults and will do so with such ease. If you’re introverted and don’t know how you’re going to perform in such an extroverted profession, the team at AVSE will show you exercises and activities to do with the kids. They will make you feel comfortable in the classroom as well as in your own skin. When you choose AVSE, you will definitely be making a good choice.

I completed my TESOL course in AVSE and I couldn’t have been happier. I arrived from Ireland, a little apprehensive, having heard that the month long course can be a bit intense. However, from the get go, I was put at ease with the welcome at the airport, and recommendations on where to go for food and what to eat on my first night. Peter and all the staff at AVSE were always very helpful and patient, even when requests had nothing to do with the TESOL course, such as how do I get my phone unlocked etc… It was an enjoyable course, and the teaching methods were both very hands on and humorous, which really made the teaching methods embed in my mind. I have taught part time on a regular basis to help fund my studies back home, and the lesson planning advice from AVSE came in really handy. If you are looking for excellent, personable and to the point instruction, then AVSE is the place for you. It’s also excellent value and a lot of fun, so any worries that you might have about moving to Vietnam will be put to ease straight away. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

For the last 3.5 weeks I have been spending most of my time in the Go Vap District studying to get my TESOL Certificate at the Australia-Vietnam School of English (AVSE). It was a phenomenal experience and I learned a lot during that time. I opted out of doing an online TEFL, ESL or TESOL training because I’m a people person who likes to be around other people. Throw in the cost to live in Vietnam for a month (including my airfare) was a lot less expensive than had I stayed in the USA for the certification. The course included 26 nights of housing and cost $1600. The airfare could be as low as $400 for a one-way trip. Drinking and eating like a king this past month cost me $500. My all-in cost for the course was $2500, which is basically what my rent, internet, cable, phone and utilities would have been for a month in Long Beach, Ca. In the Go Vap district I could eat three proper meals a day and have three beers for 100k dong or $4.50 a day. Let me know what other major city in the world you can make that happen.

The experience at AVSE was great and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in travel teaching. I had been presenting in front of business owners and colleagues for 10 years in Corporate America prior to this trip. Needless to say, I was confident in my ability to present and felt ready to teach a class before day one. Even with my background AVSE’s teachers taught me skills and techniques for a classroom that will make me a much better educator. And they are skills I can apply to a business setting if necessary. I’m a smarter and better person than I was four weeks ago.

The staff at AVSE was very helpful and they could help answer all of our questions. The team made attending and cramming 150 hours of classwork into 25 days enjoyable. While earning my four-year Bachelor’s Degree my attendance rate was about 50%. I’m proud to say that my attendance rate for this course was 100%. I think that has something to say about the quality of the classes and the ability of the teachers to make it fun. There were undeniably periods of time during the course where I was already fully skilled on the topic we were discussing. I enjoyed using that time helping and encouraging some of my classmates who were not as comfortable or knowledgeable with the subject at hand. By helping them I was able to learn different ways to go about something that helped me adapt and evolve my skills.

AVSE also does a wonderful job of getting every person who attends the course a job teaching English somewhere in Vietnam. On top of my seven teaching practices as a part of the curriculum. I taught four classes to business employees during the course and recouped some of my investment already. If you ever have questions or would like to know more information about attending AVSE just shoot me an email.
