I would like to comment on how much I enjoyed the practice teaching portion of the combined course. I took the first part of the course online and the practice teaching portion with Vantage in Bangkok, Thailand. The instructors there were Kevin and Chris. After sitting in on a few of Chris’s classes, I wish that I had attended the entire course in person. I enjoyed the extra information and insights that Chris imparted during the class sessions.

I was a little apprehensive when preparing for the first teaching assignment but I ended up really enjoying the experience. Both Kevin and Chris made me feel welcome even though I was there for only the practical part of the course. The comments I received about the lesson plans I prepared and the teaching sessions I conducted were quite helpful. The comments were presented in a manner which made them feel not so much as criticism but as a collaborative discussion on how I could improve.

Just to reiterate, I would like to thank Kevin and Chris for making the practice teaching such an enjoyable experience.

An Eye-Opening Course

TEFL is really an amazing course to teach English as a second language. I joined my TEFL program at Vantage Siam, Bangkok. I would say I enjoyed the course a lot although it may be a little intense to finish up the 120 hours of study with 6 hours of teaching practice in a month.

The trainers in Vantage are experienced and thorough, the course is really well-structured and organized. I’ve learned a lot about teaching methods and classroom management.

I’ve gain more self-confident from this course. From my 6 hour of teaching practices, I saw myself improving from every single teaching lesson, the trainer gave a lot helpful advice on enhancing my teaching to the students.

This course absolutely open my eyes to everything about teaching. I would never ever forget this experience that I have spent with people from different countries. I will remember every each of them for sure.

From my point of view, this is one of the most interesting and useful courses I’ve ever studied. The course book was very well structured and helped trainees approach new skills for teaching later. The materials also brought clear insights of how to prepare lesson plans as well as to manage classes professionally.

The practicum session left a lot of emotion from the first day full of anxiety to the last day full of happiness but sadness for the fact that there would be no more practice and you wouldn’t meet the students anymore.

In addition, my trainer, Mr. Chris is so incredible in terms of knowledge, and teaching experience. He guided trainees with his heart and never said no when trainees asked for help. You can’t expect more from the trainer.

I strongly recommend this course to my friends since I believe that they will enjoy all of the benefits I had during the course.

A New TEFL Trainer

I was an experienced teacher as well as already TEFL certified. I attended Vantage’s TEFL program as I wanted to observe a highly citied TEFL training program as I’m planning to become a trainer in a center in the Philippines.

Vantage came recommended by TEFL international who certify some 30+ training centers around the world. Moreover, it’s the top-rated program in Thailand.

A key difference from my previous TEFL training is that Vantage use a workshop style of presentation—instead of the lecture approach I usually see at other TEFL programs. This led a lot of student discussion. The lead trainer also brought in his over two decades of teaching and training experience. The bottom line was that learned significantly more than just what was in the course book.

Vantage emphasize the ESA teaching methodology (engage, study and activate), which is an evolutionary development out of the older PPP (presentation, practice and production) technique that’s still taught in many TEFL schools. Under the ESA , the teacher motivates students and arouse their interest. Language is studied, practiced, and then used freely without correcting comments. Its goal is to get the students to communicate successfully without fear of mistakes.

There’s more emphasis on student-led language discovery, eliciting the grammar and vocabulary from students rather than giving a detailed teacher-led presentations.

The total program at Vantage is fantastic. This is a really great program. I hope to incorporate a lot of what I’ve experienced into my training center.

When I decided to take a TEFL course, I was first looking for one in Pattaya but couldn’t find a professional program at a reputable school.

When I contacted Vantage, I got an immediate response, all the information I needed and everything was done in a professional way. I chose Vantage in the end because it was accredited by two universities.

Before I attended this course, I have given one-on-one lessons, but I wasn’t very successful teaching my students. That’s why I was mainly concerned about learning how to teach successfully in a classroom. I feel that I learned a lot in the observed teaching lessons and got great feedback from Chris and Kevin, which helped me to improve my teaching skills quickly.

The course itself was very informative and especially the grammar was easy to understand and taught very logically. Our trainer, Chris was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions. I also found the supplements developed by Vantage very useful and important, especially the lessons about resume writing and job interviews.

In this course I learned how to prepare and conduct a lesson and I feel highly confident, to build on what I learned, when I start teaching. I would highly recommend this TEFL course to anyone considering a career as a professional teacher.

Vantage was not my first choice for TEFL certification, however I am mighty pleased that I have completed my certification at Vantage.

The course was brilliantly delivered by Trainer Chris, he managed to deliver extremely dry content in an engaging way. Not only did I benefit as a teacher who has done corporate training for 20 years, I benefited as a native speaker of English through Chris’s logical presentation of English semantics.

A value added part of the course is Kevin’s resume writing and interviewing techniques classes. These are well thought through and are hugely underestimated tools for launching a career as an English teacher.

There are a couple of areas which undermined the value of the course; the tests at the end of the programme could have been better set to reflect higher level English.

I would have liked the course book to be indexed for ease of referencing. As it is, it is well written with great practical ideas and tips for application of the techniques taught.

In summary, I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and I’m signing up my daughter for an upcoming course for the sole purpose of improving her English language skills.

Overrall this course is a solid foundation for any TEFL trainee and a great introduction to Thai culture and customs and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of doing a TEFL in Bangkok.

The units that make up the course are detailed and in-depth but it’s the teacher who presents the information in a way that’s thorough enough for you to understand. The course also gives you a good understanding of applying for jobs and how to construct resumes and cover letters. The only thing I’d complain about is that some tests seem poorly worded, perhaps attempting to tricky but just end up being confusing.

For anyone who can’t decide between the combined course and the in-classroom course I’d highly recommend that you do the in-classroom course. For one thing you definitely get a lot more out of the course being able to talk about it with your classmates. For another the information is presented much better in class by an experienced professional who knows how to present things ways that make them more memorable and interesting. The only downside to the in-classroom course is that there a few moments I felt bored going through more mundane aspects of course… but that is subjective and you might enjoy them!

Ultimately though the trade off is worth it so definitely do the in-classroom course.

There has already been a lot said in other reviews about the qualifications and personality of the trainers, who are really excellent. The course itself is very well structured and gave me a lot of useful knowledge about teaching techniques which I found extremely important and helpful went I went into the classroom.

I really learned how to teach during my practice sessions. The Thai students were super polite and a pleasure to teach. More importantly, the feedback I got from my trainers helped me improve over each of my seven teaching sessions.

There are some additional things Vantage did which I found very important, too. First of all, there was a high level of patience among trainers who answered a number of my emails, solving all my concerns.

They were willing to help me with accommodation on my budget, giving me different options. They helped me arrange bus and train connections which would work best for me. They let my 5 years old daughter to come with me to the school for the first week, as her sport camp started week later than TEFL course.

I must also point out that course also covered valuable training about Asian culture as well as basic Thai expressions and also offered a lot of support as far as finding a teaching job. I would recommend Vantage to anyone who wishes to become a professional English teacher.

After doing an extensive online search of TEFL schools in Bangkok, I made some follow-up phone calls, but one thing that really caught my attention was the way Vantage quickly responded in detail to all my questions. I then visited the training center and I met Kevin, the Course Director, who gave me a personal tour of their facilities.

The Lead teacher, Chris, is “the best teacher in town.” He is funny, considerate, thorough and serious. I like the way he motivated us through each stage of our training. He made the course easy to understand because he teaches from two decades of teaching experience. One can feel it.

Another great thing that makes Vantage unique was their observed practice teaching sessions. We taught real students at one of Thailand’s most prestigious medical colleges in a live classroom. It gave us an excellent opportunity to put in to implement all the teaching theories we learned.

Having been a computer science teacher for the past three years in Thai schools doing this course made me realize how I previously taught was not very effective. The ESA method I learned at Vantage really show me how a great lesson is first formulated in a lesson plan and then efficiently delivered in the classroom.

My overall experience at Vantage has been one of those best things that have happened to me in Thailand. I would recommend this school without hesitation.

Being a native English speaker you often have people telling you how easy it is to find a job teaching English in Thailand. It’s a common misconception to assume that anyone who can speak English has the skills to teach the language.

Although being a native English speaker myself, I was feeling reluctant about my capabilities. I was determined to find a TEFL course that would not only enable me to revisit grammar but also introduce new pedagogies. After making numerous phone calls and meeting with different language schools I was sure that Vantage was the right fit for me.

I chose to do the program at Vantage because I knew the trainers had over 20 years of experience in education. Trainers knew how to motivate and inspire their students by empowering them with the tools needed to be great teachers. Any question or problems I had trainers were patient and always willing to help. During the course, we were taught how to create lesson plans, which were then put into practice at a local University. There are very few courses that give their students the chance to prepare them for the real world.

The Vantage school provides a conducive learning environment. Located in a convenient part of Bangkok that is easily accessible by public transportation, staff was more than happy to recommend places to stay during the course.

This course has exceeded my expectations by helping me see blind spots I wasn’t aware of and challenging me to try different things. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who is planning on getting their TEFL certification.
