If you are interested in learning how to teach in Thailand, Vantage has the best TEFL course in Thailand. Taking this course really opened my eyes up to how much work goes into teaching and how much grammar work I need to work on despite being a native speaker. The skills I learned go further beyond just being a teacher. Overall it helped me become a better presenter and public speaker. They also teach all the essential things needed about the TEFL industry in Thailand and how to work your way up the ladder in terms of job positions if teaching is something to be pursued long term. I received quality training by getting the opportunity to teach classes during the nursing college near Victory Monument. At first I was nervous because I had had no prior experience. The staff at Vantage were extremely helpful, guiding me through how to build effective lesson plans. There is a plethora of free material they provide as well as templates and examples of effective lessons. This was the most time consuming part. With the more lessons completed, I gradually got a lot better in terms of creating simple but practice lessons to teach. I would like to give a special thanks to my TEFL instructors Chris and Kevin. They both have so much experience in this industry and were very open for any discussion. Any questions you have related to teaching in Thailand and they can answer it. Overall I had a great time and very insightful experience. I would recommend Vantage to anybody looking to get a teaching license to teach not only in Thailand but the rest of South East Asia.

I have been living in Thailand for 1 and half year and When I decided to start teaching English, I began researching a TEFL course to take.As a non native English speaker and with no previous teaching experience, i was worried and felt overwhelmed. However, Based on online reviews, I found that Vantage TEFL was the right place to take the course.

What I found to be most rewarding from the course were the six hours of practical teaching experience as well as the resume building, interview tips and job placement support. Vantage, unlike many other TEFL programs, takes the time to give each student at least six hours of practical teaching experience in front of actual university students with detailed feedback after each lesson in order to improve my teaching skills and to give me more confidence.

The process of creating lesson plans, building up teaching resources, grammar refreshments and teaching ideas was very powerful and effective. The instructors also provide awareness of all the additional information that you will need to be a qualified teacher, which is not covered in the course book, through a supplemental book that they’ve clearly taken many hours to build based on their teaching experience. The instructors here at Vantage are available to guide you and answer questions not only throughout the course, but after your graduation as well. I would highly recommend the Vantage TEFL Program for anyone considering coming to Thailand to become a teacher.

When I came to Thailand I had no intention of staying. After traveling the country for a few weeks I decided I would not go back to the U.S. and began researching a TEFL course to take. I was concerned that I didn’t have enough qualifications or experience to be a teacher. I found Vantage TEFL through their amazing reviews online and knew it was the course for me. Some of the things I found to be most rewarding from the course were the six hours of practical teaching experience as well as the resume building and job placement support. Vantage, unlike many other TEFL programs, takes the time to give each student at least six hours of practical teaching experience in front of actual university students. The process of creating lesson plans and building up teaching resources was very powerful in giving me the confidence that I was qualified to teach in a classroom. The instructors also make you aware of all the additional information that you will need to be a teacher, which is not covered in the course book, through a supplemental book that they’ve clearly taken many hours to build based on their teaching experience. My primary course instructor has over 20 years of teaching experience here in Thailand. The instructors here at Vantage are available to guide you and answer questions not only throughout the course, but after your graduation as well. They also show you how what you’ve done for work in the past is almost always in some transferable to a career in teaching. I would highly recommend the Vantage TEFL Program for anyone considering coming to Thailand to become a teacher.

Before I started Vantage TEFL course, I spent a lot of time researching on English teachers’ courses and I made the decision that a face to face course would be more beneficial, as there was a practical teaching component to the course.

I decided to check out who, and what was being offered in person. For me it had to be internationally recognized and accredited by a reputable educational Institution. Secondly, they had to have more than just a couple of hours of actual teaching practice. Thirdly, the trainers not only had to meet, but exceed stringent academic requirements for teaching TEFL. Having Cambridge University accreditation and backed by Fort Hays State University certainly met the criteria.

Teaching a language is much more about getting the students to speak—and motivating them to do the work.

Was I prepared for the challenge Vantage would put me through? I thought so, but this course pushed me beyond my comfort zone on occasion. The lead trainer Chris was always there to encourage and help us. As a trainer you would be hard to find someone any better. With the level of experience he has, his industry knowledge and how he always goes above and beyond with every aspect of the training. He will do everything in his power to ensure that you are prepared and confident with teaching English to others, as well as making sure you are enjoying the course.

“Real experience is the key point in learning how to teach”

Having to present real time lessons to real students really does put you to the test. This is the difference between Vantage and other training facilities. At Vantage having real students and not the other trainees makes a greater impact on your development as the teacher because you can see how your teaching has an effect on your students.

And while I was more than nervous in my first lesson, by the sixth class I felt much more confident, relaxed and knew what to expect from the class and from myself. The observed feedback from Chris, Kevin, and my fellow trainees was invaluable. I felt I got a little better each time I taught! And I found the Thai students were fantastic—polite and fun to teach.

I would strongly recommend Vantage for your TEFL course. Their course certainly gave me the necessary skills and the requisite tools that are needed to successfully teach English as a second language.

I came into this course knowing I had a lot to learn. I started my college career thinking I was going to teach. So I have seen firsthand how many varied courses there are on the road to a teaching certificate. I was very curious to see how that could be boiled down to a one month course. You’ve heard the saying, “How do you eat an elephant?” “One bite at a time.” That is the way Vantage approached the classes.

The course is broken up into bite-sized pieces that are easy to learn and basic in form and function. Functional pieces such as grammar and vocabulary are broken up into easy to understand pieces that give the student a refresher in proper English grammar.

The classes that teach functional teaching techniques are also broken up into small, easy to digest, portions that provide the students with a format that is easy to learn, reproduce, and perform. In weeks three and four students are given an opportunity to put apply that knowledge by teaching six one hour classes to real students in an actual classroom environment. And these young students are a delightful group to work with.

The last important pieces to the course are the preparation given to help get students settled in Bangkok by providing specific information as to where to stay, how to get to class, where to shop and to do the everyday. Lastly, the faculty and staff are a wealth of knowledge in helping students understand the many job opportunities available in Thailand and in Southeast Asia. I highly recommend this course.

TEFL Course Review

A Medical Pro turns to Teaching Languages

I had over a decade of experience as a trainer in the medical supplies industry where I delivered high level tailored trainings for doctors and staff in operation and clinical applications. And as a native English speaker, I was really wondering what a TEFL program could teach me.

What I learned was how to teach a language. While my background as a product trainer is really helpful—I feel very comfortable presenting to just about anyone and I know how to work a room. But I now realize there are some key differences between presenting a product and its features than getting someone to successfully acquire a second language.

At Vantage, we learned about the different teaching mythologies and then put the ESA method into practice in to our observed teaching practices. You really learn to be an English teacher as you first develop a guided lesson plan and then execute it in front of a live classroom of non-English speaking students.

After each observed teaching session, I got extremely valuable feedback from the TEFL trainers. They would also present us a new challenge to tackle for the next upcoming teaching session. They wanted to see more than just a single good teacher performance. We were being coached for overall growth in each and every individual session as the practicum went on.

One thing that really help me was the small size of Vantage’s TEFL courses. We all got the individual attention we needed—and then some—as we analyzed our own and each other’s teaching in a productive and meaningful way.

Doing my TEFL training at Vantage in Bangkok was a fantastic experience. The trainers have a ton of experience so I learned from much more than just the textbook. This program is world-class.

Before I started my Tefl certification, I didn’t have much clue as to what it would require. I didn’t do much research or inquiry. I found this course to be a very satisfying experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and eager to help. They are quite knowledgeable, but have a levity which facilitates your learning. They do not bog you down with over the top theoretical diatribes, but keep things simple and palatable. They also have a local knowledge which will help in particular if you are looking for work in Thailand. In addition, there is a teaching practical which really drives home the ideas which are taught during the course. I found this to be the part I liked best. Overall, the course was a good experience, and I would highly recommend it if you are interested.

I came into a TESOL certification class having a very bleak view for this type of certification. Having obtained a degree in child development and with about 10 years teaching under my belt, I was very skeptical about the need for such a certification, given my experience. After doing some research, I decided to choose Vantage because it had been accredited by a university from the United States, which meant that I could use this certification anywhere in the world–and to me that was important, because I had some interest in teaching in other countries, as well.

I did not expect much from the class, nor was I prepared for the challenge Vantage would put me through. This course was no ‘walk-in-the-park’. In fact, it was quite challenging and rewarding–much different from the perspective I had going into it.

The instructor was excellent, well-versed in what he was teaching with insight and ideas that were a great guide to developing better techniques for good teaching. I particularly enjoyed his snide jokes, which would regularly come to keep you alert! He was always available for questions or help and was very good at giving input, knowing how to word constructive criticisms in a way so as to not make you feel bad or dumb.

Our hands-on teacher practice at the nursing college was an excellent part of the course, where we were able to try our hand at working with actual Thai language students and learn in the process. It was a great experience and the instructor was there to observe, offering very good feedback (both good and bad), as explained above.

The course also did a great job guiding us into making good lesson plans…and how to carry them out and critique how we did according to what our lesson plan was. In fact, a lot of time was spent focusing on these lesson plans. I am very glad I took this course, because I am particularly bad at lesson plans and learned quite a bit from this!

In the end, Kevin, the owner of the school, assisted me to come up with a ‘power resume’, an impressive resume he helps us to make based on our own resume and experiences that is attractive to employers and helps give us an edge on the rest of the competition out there. I was quite impressed by this resume and his advice to how to make resumes that employers like and will get your foot-in-the-door.

Last, but not least, they offer an abundance of resources on their website to places that you can get materials (workbooks, text books, teaching aids, etc), job placement websites, school organizations, etc. I found this particularly helpful to just about any teacher new or old.

Overall, I would highly recommend this TESOL certification school. The employees are friendly, well knowledgeable, the material is presented well, and you will certainly get your money’s worth. If there were any point of criticism I would have, I would have liked there to be more resources readily available for teachers who plan on teaching younger children. Other than this, the school receives my top marks. Thanks, Vantage, for helping me further my education and become a better teacher–thanks for challenging me and pushing me to be my best!

P.S. on a side note, the school is conveniently located near a coffee shop and a store you can buy some respectable lunches at. I found myself getting coffee and patronizing the “Tops” supermarket on a daily bases.

Before I started Vantage TEFL course, I spent a lot of time researching on English teachers’ courses. I do not know why I’ve chosen this course. Perhaps it’s because of the Vantage web-page was one of the first that appeared in Google or because of Kevin’s immediately replying to all my emails I sent to him.

Firstly, I would like to note that if you are a non-native speaker as I am, don’t be afraid to take this course. I had doubts about my chances of passing this class, because I thought my English is not good enough, I am a non-native speaker and I am too young for this. But Chris and Kevin, the trainers, had been helping me throughout the course.

Secondly, to tell the truth I didn’t expect the course would be SO hard. Vantage TEFL course is intensive, so you most likely be exhausted during the class, BUT! in a GOOD way. You’ll learn a lot of important things about teaching like planning lessons, managing classes, teaching the language, using equipment and teaching aids and etc. but don’t be afraid of it, because you will be guided by great trainers.

I would like to thank Chris, for being such an extraordinary teacher. I bet he was learning with us, because he needed to find a new pitch of teaching such disorganized people like me and Tom. Thank you for your patience and feedbacks you gave us. Also the “Power resume” and “Job interview techniques” sessions were taught by Kevin who is passionate about what he does. Your lessons were VERY helpful.

So, thank you, Vantage TEFL Thailand course, for helping me to become more confident and to find advantages of being a young teacher and a non-native speaker.

The Vantage TEFL Certification programme was an experience I will never forget. I decided to come to Thailand for inspiration and to try something new. I wanted to explore Thailand because of their lovely people and the exquisite culture and the TEFL programme was something I had heard about through friends so this was a great opportunity. However, coming to a foreign land with so many people compared to small New Zealand plus the added stress of an intensive 4 week course seemed incredibly daunting. I was quickly to find that upon arrival and through the duration of the course, this to be a great experience.

Kevin was incredibly helpful in the weeks leading into the course. Keeping up with what was happening and providing useful information regarding visas, accomodation, transport and what to expect with the course and Bangkok.

It wasn’t easy-work needed to be done but they provided more than enough resources and support for the tasks to be completed to the highest standard. Due to the small class sizes, it was very personal and any queries were answered instantly. All problems were addressed immediately. On the first day-we met our trainer, mixed with our peers and the got right into it. I was the youngest in the class and thought this would be a disadvantage but it turned out to be fine as we were all treated equal and we were all in the same situation-training to be an English teacher and discovering what this means and involves. I truly loved teaching at the nursing college-a wonderful learning experience. Observations from the trainers and our peers all through the course helped us improve after every lesson and I found this feedback to be a big part of what enabled us to succeed. I wish my class friends very thriving careers as inspiring and caring English teachers.

The workload was manageable and I commend their flexibility at the course. They encouraged me to reach my full potential and helped build my confidence throughout the 4 weeks. They well and truly go out of their way to give their students the very best preparation to teach English and become great teachers. I feel ready and able to teach English. Thank you Kevin, Chris, Ryan and the rest of the Vantage team.
