I’m very glad that I chose to study with OnTESOL. It was perfect for me to be able to work completely online at whatever times fit my schedule. The course content was very good – I especially appreciate the emphasis on the communicative approach since I strongly agree that our main goal as TEFL teachers is to help students learn to communicate in their second language. The grammar review was helpful, as was the introduction to phonology, but the best practice for me was creating the lesson plans. My tutor gave me excellent feedback to help me make improvements from one lesson plan to the next. She was very experienced and was always prompt with her replies to any questions that I had. The 120-hour online TESOL course was a very rewarding experience, and I look forward to putting what I’ve learned into practice.

The ONTESOL offers a course that is detailed and comprehensive. It helps me to set up lessons and provide teaching strategies to students. It helps me to set up lessons and provide teaching strategies to students. It gives me an approach that allows me to use a communicative approach to teach the students. It also allows me to learn how to set up vocabulary and grammar lessons suitable for the students. I greatly recommend this course for anyone looking to teach students dynamically and effectively.

Overall my experience was very positive with Ontesol.

The only component I can reflect on that could be improved is the practicum placement.

In my case I received assistance from my employer in securing a practicum term at the Canadian College of English Language, however if someone did not work in the ESL field already like I did, I could see it being intimidating or perhaps overwhelming trying to secure a placement on one’s own. Perhaps there could be more supports in the program in this specific area.

Overall I enjoyed my experience! Thanks Ontesol and Claudia!

As someone majoring education in one of the premier universities in Canada, I am still surprised at OnTesol’s quality of education, especially considering that everything is done online. The outline of the course is reasonable and highly relevant to actual teaching. The communication between me and my tutor was efficient, and I was able to be design refined lesson plans with the help of my tutor and all the useful readings. I’d highly recommend the course to anyone who intends to teach English to non-native speakers.

If you want to become a certified ESL teacher and improve your over all teaching or lesson plan abilities this course is for you.

The course material is structured extremely well with each module being clear and concise. My advisor Claudia was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Over all the experience was excellent and I really enjoyed working on the assignments and learning how to create and ideal lesson plan.

I did the 120-hour online TESOL with Teaching Business English and Practicum. I liked that the assignments in the online courses include a variety of lesson plans so I practiced planning for grammar and vocabulary with all 4 communication skills in mind. I had to take the Practicum for my employment and I would highly recommend it even if this was not the case for you. It was free at my school and the moderator assigned by Ontesol gave me some great advice. Overall this is a very good course that I would recommend to anyone who needs TESL Canada accreditation.

I really liked the course but I found that I needed more guidance with lesson planning and communicating by email only is not sufficient.

I really enjoyed my time with OnTesol. I completed the 250-hour diploma along with their three specialization courses. This took me 16 months total and included Teaching Business English, Teaching English to Young Learners and Teaching IELTS. The base diploma content was very thorough. This is not an easy course but you will learn a lot and get out of it as much as you put in. It has a very strong focus on lesson plan development which continues throughout the additional specializations. The specializations helped me feel grounded in various sub-specialties in the teaching world. Some of the material seemed slightly outdated and once or twice a link in the content was no longer valid. However, some of the suggested videos and additional reading were very interesting.

All of the tutors I had were very quick to respond to any questions and to provide feedback on assignments. I had 3 different tutors between my 4 courses and all of them were professional and informative, though each had their own style. The one drawback is that the only way to communicate is e-mail. This was challenging for two reasons. First, was the time involved in e-mail. Even if I had a quick question it took time to get an answer and if a follow-up question was required that took even more time. Second, was when I had complicated questions it was challenging to write base and possible supplemental questions depending on the base question answer.

As for the practicum. I think it is a great idea and something I wish I had been in Canada to complete with their help. While it is technically possible to complete a practicum outside of Canada, it can be very challenging to find someone in your local area who is willing to follow the guidelines to complete the practicum.

Overall, I would highly recommend OnTesol to someone who wants a good educational base for working in the TESOL field. I feel very qualified to enter the TESOL market with the education provided. Whether you are looking to obtain the fundamentals or get additional specialized certifications I highly recommend all of their courses.

I was very happy with this course (the 120-hour on-line coursework + 20 hour practicum).

I actually found parts of the course rather difficult – which, for me, meant that I was actually learning something new. I come from an academic university background, so the first few parts were quite easy, but I learned a whole new way of teaching needed to be applied to successfully teach ESL students. I found it particularly useful to create lesson plans and parts of lessons for different ESL levels.

I am already teaching ESL to adults and have found it reasonably easy to apply everything that I learned in the course to the CLB/PBLA structure in which I am now teaching.

I was also happy with my supervisor for the on-line course portion of the course, and the practicum was so useful because I did it with Literacy-level students – a separate category on its own.

The bottom line is that, while I found it difficult at times, I walked away confident that I would be able to successfully teach ESL to adults (and probably to younger students as well).

I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who wants to receive a solid background in teaching ESL>
