I did the course with TEFL Toulouse this year in July. The course was one of the most intense 4 weeks of my life. The mornings are full of teaching theory, grammar and phonology, followed by teaching practice sessions and feedback in the afternoon. We all had to absorb a lot of information in a short amount of time. For me the group dynamic definitely made it easier, we helped each other get through the initial fears and despite the hard work, we had a lot of fun together!

So if you are wondering, every minute of it was worth it. Jonathan, Helen, Julie and Dimitri are all highly knowledgeable and they all made themselves available in a very generous way. The course was very well-structured and the content was engaging. I started teaching about a month after the course in Belgium and now I constantly find myself referring back to the advice and teachings of the trainers. 🙂

Prior to the course I was a bit scared being there as a non-native speaker, but looking back I realize what an advantage it really was! So fellow NNSs, please don’t let this ever stop you from applying!

I strongly recommend this TEFL course to anyone who is serious about teaching!

It was a very intense and fun course. Every morning I couldn’t wait to go to the Language Center. The course is very well-planned and thorough. You’ll learn many aspects of teaching and of English. My favorite lessons were the phonology sessions.

Jonathan, Helen, Julie and Dimitri are very competent and share willingly not only their vast knowledge, but also the passion for what they do. Their guidance and advice is precious; not just for lesson planning during the course, but for teaching English afterwards as a career.

I definitely recommend this course to anyone seriously thinking about teaching English.

I strongly recommend this TEFL course to anyone (native or none native) who is aiming to become an english teacher in France or abroad. This intensive one month course is the best to get you started. If you are in a quality approach with giving lessons but at the same time you are not willing to spend years studying, TEFL TOULOUSE is the best place for you!!

This course is really complete. We do a recap. of the main grammar points (parts of speech, tenses, phrasal verbs…) at the same time than learning how to teach grammar. As well, we learn teaching theory (learner styles, teachers styles, classroom management, …). At last every afternoon, we have teaching practice with real students. English tutors help us to improve our lesson planning skills before the course start, watch the lesson and then debrief with us. This is all really helpfull.

Be prepared to work hard during one full month. You are given homework every week added to 2 lessons of 1 hour each to organise and 2 grammar exams to prepare.

I am really thankful to Jonathan for having shared his knowlege with us.

I would strongly recommend TEFL TOULOUSE to anyone who is seeking a professionnalism, accredited experience. Most theoretic courses are taught by the Director Jonathan Davies who has a rich experience teaching English. And makes teaching approaches seem easy. the course planning is devided into two. The mornings are devoted to teaching approaches and techniqes, while the afternoons are for teaching practices. Afterwards, the feedback sessions after teaching practice which are motivating and their aim is to improve the trainee’s teaching methods rather than to criticise it. Morover, the staff is friendly and provides teaching advice concerning lesson plans. If I were to do the TEFL certificate again, I would definitely choose TEFL TOULOUSE again.

I took the one month TEFL Toulouse course in September this year. The school is small and located in a quiet neighborhood, next to the beautiful Jardin de Plantes. I loved the course, it is very intense so expect to be working hard from morning until late evening for a full month. Also allow for 4/5 days extra at the end of the course to finish the final project, which is done in your own time at home. The course is divided into 2 parts, the theoretical part, which covers grammar and many other theoretical ideas about teaching (this takes place in the morning) and the practical part, which takes place in the afternoons, and consists of making lesson plans, teaching and lesson critique. The staff are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Overall the course content is varied and extremely engaging. Be prepared to absorb a lot of information in a short amount of time! I had some experience of teaching going in and left feeling well armed and confident to apply for jobs. We were given plenty of job advise and hand outs to assist us with the daunting prospect of finding work. We covered the basics of teaching business English but I would have perhaps benefited from doing some more practical work in this regard. That said I highly recommend doing the course at TEFL Toulouse if you are serious about becoming an English foreign language teacher.

I think the course, trainers, location, teaching practice, staff… and more.. were all excellent. Jonathan, Andy, James and Katerina and Judith in the office were all so nice, professional, supportive and gentle. And we loved the “guinea pig” French students we taught, who came to our lessons every day.

Someone in another review wrote about them “just wanting your money” and it being impossible to set up in France. I think this is really unfair. It is true that in France the bureaucracy is a real hurdle but where there is a will there is a way! I now have lots of teaching work in Nantes, after working a lot in Toulouse. I think giving TEFL TOULOUSE one star for job assistance is unjustified, as they tell you everything you need to know about how to get work here and worldwide, and also give you job guidance all of your life. I would agree that France is not like China though where they need hundreds of new teachers every day. Also i found a shared appartement with students very quickly so I don’t understand the comment about landlords wanting 3 months rent in advance. Maybe that is so if you want to rent a studio through a real estate agency. I only paid 300 euro a month for my room, and got a free social life with French people thrown in!

Sure, Americans must realise that they cannot work legally in Europe, so should not come with that intention. I think they can do a course here in France though (eg with the Alliance Francaise or another campusfrance.org course) to get a student visa. But of course that is pricey.

Anyways, just wanted to thank you all for a fantastic month!! Oh and I recommend staying in France at least one month after the course, as the course is too intense to get out and about much over the 4 weeks.

Well I just wanted to put the record straight after the bad review which they don’t deserve. Go for it, you wont regret it!

Doing this intensive TEFL Toulouse course as a Mum of two involved a certain amount of juggling but was absolutely worth it. The trainers themselves were excellent and ensured that the learning was fun, as well as interesting. The opportunity to gain 6 hours teaching practice with different levels and ages was also invaluable. I felt completely supported by the TEFL Team and the other students in my group from the very start and this made the whole experience enjoyable and memorable. I started my first teaching job, teaching young learners, just 1 week after I had finished my TEFL.

Structurally, the course is great. Jonathan and the other tutors really know their stuff when it comes to EFL teaching, and working in Asia as a teacher now I regularly find myself referring back to their advice and teachings. For the novice or beginner teacher who wants a first step into the world of TEFL, I’d recommend TEFL Toulouse.

The caveat here is that I’d only recommend it if you’re already living in France. Don’t move here from another country expecting to start a new life in France. TEFL Toulouse provides next to no information about the strifes and ardours a prospective new teacher will face in the country. Firstly, the jobs are scarce, and the ones that are available are few and fiercely fought for. Secondly, even as an EU citizen, setting up in the country is next-to-impossible unless you have a lot of money (minimum 5,000 euros, I’d say.) French landlords require up to 3 months’ rent in advance when hiring to foreigners, you can’t get a job unless you have an attestion de domicile, and you will face buerocractic red-tape at every turn. Attempting to move to this country nearly bankrupted me, and it’s only in recent months I’ve been able to recover from the financial damage it did and start afresh. Prior to starting the course, TEFL Toulouse will not so much as hint at these issues, as they want your money. Finally, IATQUO isn’t really known outside western Europe, and you’d be better off doing a recognised qualification like CELTA or Trinity for more or less the same price.

My advice? Unless you’re in the country already, plan to leave after the course (during which time you won’t have much opportunity to see the city due to the intensity of the course) or have enough money to keep you going in one of Europe’s most expensive countries for several months without pay, stay at home and do a CELTA or Trinity TESOL locally, and then look for work in China, the Middle East or SE Asia. France is not where you want to be as a young, inexperienced and newly qualified teacher.

The course was a fantastic experience! It was a lot of work and pretty intense, but ultimately great fun and very rewarding.

The course content is excellent and will definitely prepare you for teaching. I’ve never taught before, but with theory lessons, and a lot of guidance, the teaching practice wasn’t as daunting as I thought it would be. The course gives you everything you need to become a teacher, provided you are willing to study.

The instructors are very experienced and approachable.

I recommend having a laptop of your own. In my case it was essential for preparing lessons at home and at the weekend.

I definitely recommend this course, it’s worth the money. You get what you pay for.
