Fantastic instructors and content! My only criticism would be that 4 hours on a Zoom call is a long time, especially considering interaction takes a little longer on the platform anyway.

At first the thought of giving up 2 of my weekends in a row seemed very daunting, but I was glad to see that the time went by very quickly! However, I think it’s important to note that although the timings of the virtual classroom course was 9-1 on both Saturday and Sunday, you are to plan lessons for the next day on both Saturdays, and so this time is extended by at least an hour/hour and a half once signing off from Zoom.

Overall, I found the virtual classroom course very useful. I had previously completed all of my online work for the course, and so it was a nice way to consolidate everything, and speak to other fellow students who were going through the same thing. It was most definitely a great way to connect, and I hope to stay in touch with the lovely people I have met through doing this course.

The feedback we received from our instructor, Joanna, was very useful, and certainly for me it gave me the confidence in knowing that I can do a good job and go on to be successful in this career path.

The only negative which I would state is that it would have been nice to have a bit more enthusiasm from our instructor at the start of the course/have some icebreakers. I felt as though we all had signed on to this Zoom call, didn’t get a proper introduction from our instructor, and then we just went straight in with the course content. Personally, I felt it seemed slightly rushed, and it was a shame to not be made to feel comfortable with something new from the start. That being said, once a little time had gone by, we all engaged more in conversation and so the atmosphere improved.

I would definitely recommend the virtual classroom course to anybody who is hoping to complete a course with TEFL org. Not only is it highly convenient, but it also is full of lots of information which may have been forgotten/overlooked when completing the online courses.

Tony did an excellent job guiding us through the virtual classroom. The practice lessons were extremely helpful in preparing us for real world situations, allowing us the creative freedom to get as technical or broad as we wanted. The feedback was especially beneficial as it allowed us to see what works well and what did not. Even though this course was virtual, delivering the lessons through an online format gives students valuable knowledge. With more and more jobs going online, it was more than beneficial to learn how lessons can be adapted for a virtual format.

I have just finished my 20 hour online classroom with Tony . I have found it excellent in every way . Not only did Tony teach us basics of Zoom techniques , he also demonstrated in his lessons how creative it can be to teach online and how, in every way , it can be as useful and enjoyable as live classrooms . In fact , after this course , I believe online teaching gives more scope for creative , exciting

teaching techniques . I started the course as sceptic . I have become an enthusiast convert to online classroom teaching .

I believe this is 100% because of my tutor Tony , who provided a

enjoyable environment straight away and was continually patient , helpful and interesting.

Thank you very much for an excellent experience.

Joanna was an excellent tutor, she was patient with everyone and explained everything in an easy to understand manner that really helped communicate ideas to us effectively.

I really appreciated the opportunity to present our practice lessons as that is the main thing I was worried about before I started the course but now I feel much more confident and competent. It was also great to be able to see everyone else’s lessons and I feel I easily learnt as much from everyone else on the course as I did from Joanna.

This was an excellent course and I would happily recommend it to anyone who is interested.

Really thorough, supportive teaching, bringing everyone along with confidence and enthusiasm. It felt like everyone in the class received constructive criticism and personal guidance, and the general guidance and experience handed out was really reassuring and helpful.

It might have been good to know there would be a little lesson planning involved beforehand so I could ensure I had time to prepare in the afternoon following class, but I understand that the benefits of not advising students beforehand that they’ll be expected to give a practice class probably outweigh the slight inconvenience of having unexpected homework! (possibly we were told before the course started and I didn’t notice anyway…)

No complaints at all – Simon’s confidence extended to everyone in the class and made it a much more fun experience than I was expecting from my first Zoom class.

Despite consuming pretty much two full weekends, missing out on at least one weekend lie-in (ha ha…) and having to dedicate my last two Saturday evenings until some crazy hour lesson-planning, this part of the course was so totally worth it 🙂

As our on-line teacher, Simon was truly excellent and the teaching experience overall was highly positive and enjoyable (this of course is largely attributed to Simon and the excellent array of knowledge & resources that he shared with us).

Simon is clearly, highly experienced and knows his “stuff” and most essentially, he shares a passion for what he does, which ensured we were all fully engaged and motivated throughout the course (even when we got onto the less popular theme of Phonetics!)

I felt that he bonded with us all individually as well with the entire group (and that was some task…..I think we started as a group of 16…..!)

Simon’s delivery of the learning was professional and super-organised.

Warmers/ ice-breakers, activities and explanations were facilitated with a witty sense of humour, a few laughs and much empathy.

Simon’s explanations were consistently clear and constant feedback was elicited on instructions to ensure we all knew what we were doing. His feed-back to our presentations was thorough, with lots of praise, encouragement and positive criticism where required. I was very inspired by Simon’s thorough feed-back to us all.

Having completed the on-line Grammar, Methodology and Video Observation parts of the course prior to this weekend, I was impressed how this weekend mirrored so much of what I had already picked up on in the Methodology unit and it was a great opportunity to refresh and revise the learning I had previously done.

I had an amazing experience doing these lessons. They’re both informative and fun! I’m grateful to Kirsty for being such an amazing teacher. I started the course terrified and plagued by imposter syndrome and ended it believing I had the tools to actually go on and become a teacher.

I gained a lot during my lessons but if I was to add any suggestions, it would be to give assignments on the Sunday, (rather than the Saturday) to allow students time to polish their lesson plans before the presentations. Having to do it overnight, can be stressful for those who have panic disorders and anxiety. I know this won’t be the case with all students, but think it’s important to mention, as it is something I did struggle with.

I would recommend this course to anyone and I’m so happy I did it.

It’s not an easy thing to be successfully engaging when you’re not even in the same room, but Simon French pulled it off flawlessly.

The practice lessons were definitely extremely useful and necessary in finding your own limitations and places where you need improvement. Giving targeted feedback to fellow classmates was also a great exercise in recognizing, what works and what doesn’t. However, the class size was probably a bit at the upper limit (I think there were 13 of us) to get through everyone’s practice lessons without losing a bit of steam (us that is, not Simon!).

The teaching content of course had some overlap with the online modules, but was at the same time quite different in its approach and helped me to think for example about lesson staging in a different way than with the online modules alone. Simon was also very convincing in his insistence on getting us to focus on less popular subject matters, such as phonemics.

Going into the course, I thought 4-hour sessions would feel very long (especially in a virtual classroom), but time was flying for most of it. What might be helpful, aside from smaller classes, would be to set aside a slightly more time for student questions.
