Description

Cambridge Assessment English approved the opening of Teaching House in 2007. With the aim to expand quality English-language teacher training in the United States, Teaching House has opened over 15 center locations and trained over 3,000 new teachers. Teaching House is now the largest provider of Cambridge CELTA courses in the world.

Ensuring the high standards of education that are set by Cambridge English, all Teaching House CELTA courses have a maximum of only 6 trainees working with each trainer. To fulfill this trainer/trainee ratio, the Teaching House staff include over 20 Cambridge English-approved teacher trainers as well as a strong support team based at our headquarters in New York.

In addition to the standard four-week CELTA course format, Teaching House has developed two new formats:

  • a 10-week part-time course run on two evenings a week and on Saturdays;
  • a part-time blended course over 14 weeks allowing people to work online during the week and do teaching practice on Saturdays.

We also offer in the USA a two week compressed teaching practice option with online content, for those who are only able to take two weeks for their teaching practice component.

Taking the CELTA was the best way to get me started with teaching. The most effective way to become a good teacher is building experience, and we got to teach right away on Day 2. The first lessons were 20-min long but we had gotten to know our students beforehand and my classmates in the small group were also teaching. My trainer was very encouraging with her feedback after our lessons and I felt ready to jump in. We had teaching practice in the afternoons every other day and theory/methods instruction every morning. While we were busy writing lesson plans and preparing ppts, it never felt “too much” and the challenge always paid off with greater student rapport in the classroom. I also appreciate the treasure trove of resources that will support our teaching careers for years down the road. Thank you Teaching House!

I overall really enjoyed the CELTA course by Teaching House, learned even more than expected! It was a really hands on, practical course. From week one we were thrown into teaching, I learned the most from watching experienced teachers teach, as well as my classmates and having to do it myself! The tutors, classmates and students were all supportive and fun to learn from. The course content was good, the online modules were informative. It was mostly self-teaching, I wish there would have been more live sessions with the tutors. There isn’t much in terms of job assistance, though tutors gave a few tips where to look for jobs. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to teach in a language school abroad or in the US!

I really loved this course a lot! I enjoyed all of my tutors, Natalie, Adrienne, and Stephanie. They were all so amazing. I learned so much from them and I am so thankful that they all helped me get to where I want to be in life. I would not have done it with out their help and guidance. I appreciate Natalie guiding me so much in the beginning with all the chaos and confusion going on. I also appreciate the support and encouragement I got from all three of them! I definitely will spread the word around and let my friends know that Cambridge is the best school to take the CELTA course! Great tutors, quick responses on emails and very patient end encouraging! Thank you all again!

Even though this was an online course, I was still satisfied with the experience. It was tough and it was fair, and I received a lot out of it.

All my teachers were extremely helpful and cared about our learning. They would help you where needed and make sure you were not alone in this process.

I completed the CELTA course from Teaching House London, fully online due to COVID-19. As other reviewers have said, the course is highly challenging and will consume you for four weeks. They aren’t joking when they say you can’t do anything else–including sleep (well). The course is mentally and physically exhausting but absolutely top-notch quality. The tutors are highly experienced and supportive. The resources were excellent. The orientation to online teaching via Zoom was dizzying, and we were teaching real students on day 2! If you are a native English speaker, the grammar lessons that we “get” to teach will be painful to plan because we don’t know what we are talking about because native speakers don’t learn grammar. The non-native speakers were much better equipped in this area. In fact, one of the great aspects to this course was the fact that native English speakers were in the minority in my cohort. We were a global group, and that was a highly positive aspect to the course. The tutors give advice on CVs and job-hunting, and that’s good enough. The content is rich and varied, and I appreciated how the tutors use the CELTA method to teach us the CELTA method. The course is mind-bending, and if you pass, you will have earned it.

This is one of the best training courses I’ve ever taught, where I was forced to step out of my comfort zone (and into my learning zone) from day 1. I would have appreciated more time in the first day or two to just get used to the technology, the coursebook, and the admin stuff just a little bit more – it’s ton of information to take in at once and I didn’t feel there was sufficient time or patience for figuring it all out and organizing onesself. Otherwise, the course was very professional and useful and I’d be happy to recommend it to others.
