I took my first Oxford Seminars TEFL course in 2018. This 120-hour course certificate qualified me to register on an international tutoring platform as an English ESL instructor.

I love English and was a voracious reader all my life, but I certainly could not have taught ESL if I had not taken this course. The textbook that came with it is a tremendous resource.

For a variety of reasons, I could not teach overseas or work for an English tutoring company, so I decided to be self-employed and teach one-on-one and on-line only. Because of my background, I felt more comfortable focusing on Business English rather than academic English or children.

I was able to add substantial income to what I was earning from my day job.

In 2026, I decided to register on an additional tutoring platform that required more than a 120-hour certificate, so I registered with Oxford Seminars for an additional online 40-hour upgrade in Business English. Even though I had been teaching this for eight years, this course inspired me to revise and expand some of my teaching methods. My only disappointment was that the teaching material for Business English was available on-line only and did not provide a physical textbook.

I would unreservedly recommend this course to anyone considering teaching ESL. Our instructor was very experienced and the course material very comprehensive. The fact that Oxford Seminars also offers placement services (and it’s worth noting that the individual that covered the services in class was well prepared and extremely informative) is an added perk. The course is well-worth the money!

A must have if you plan on teaching abroad. Getting to understand teaching for ESL class is valuable. And forget about applying your other teaching skills right of the bat – everything you know about teaching will have to be re-learned. And Oxford instructor gave us all – material, lectures, samples, and practical exercises. Do I feel completely ready? Hell no, but do I feel in much better place now. By all means yes.

I completed the Oxford Seminars TESL/TESOL/TEFL Certification Course online led by instructor John Taylor. His engaging and supportive teaching style made the program highly practical and enjoyable. I now feel confident and well-prepared to teach ESL both in Canada and internationally. This course was a truly valuable step in my teaching journey.
