I had a very good month completing my TESOL at NTA. I really liked the idea of completing my course in class rather than online as it just gives you much more information and prepares you a lot better than any online course really could. The course instructor was great and I really learnt a lot from doing this course!

Ninja Teacher Academy has some the top notch instructors with years of educational experience and ESL knowledge. Having the choice to get your TESOL Certificate on-line or in country, I would highly recommend doing the in country course with Ninja Teacher. Their staff is 100% committed to helping you in and outside the classroom.

I’ll get straight to brass tacks. This program is a winner – like gold medal standard. When I first put thought into becoming an English teacher in Vietnam, I was extremely nervous that I wouldn’t be very good at it, even though I had experience from back in the States. I didn’t feel like my teaching style would be adequate. However, after learning from the Ninja Teacher Academy (NTA) I found that, although my skills were different and geared toward traditional American classrooms, my mindset/confidence was the only thing that held me back. Now, thanks to Alex, Kyle, and Miranda and their expertise in teaching in Vietnam – as well as other Asian countries – I work for one of the biggest English teaching institutions in Vietnam, and get to do what I love and am passionate about. English is a beautiful language, and is a cultural commodity in the sense that all over the world it is becoming more popular and valuable; and, it is satisfying to share it with my students and watch them grow and learn to speak better every day.

Although I did have to make the conscious decision to undergo the necessary changes in lifestyle and come to another country to really enjoy these benefits, it was the wonderful people at Ninja Teacher who provided the necessary paths to follow and made this passion a reality. I would strongly suggest giving it a proper attempt and learning all you can from the staff at NTA. There’s teaching and then there’s Ninja Teaching. Be a Ninja Teacher – the name even sounds cool. Also, there’s a shirt. Do it for the shirt, too. It’s a really cool shirt. You want that shirt.

In October of 2019 I enrolled on the Ninja Teacher TESOL course to qualify me to teach ESL students in Viet Nam. Go back a month or two when, back in Blighty, I was mulling over how best to get qualified, the initial interaction with Ninja Teacher offered answers to all questions and an ‘open door’ to asking follow-up questions that never once felt like the hard sell. That is important when looking to part with a sizeable sum of money to a business located over 11,000 km away.

Viet Nam has been a home-away-from-home for a number of years, so cultural orientation wasn’t necessary as I put boots to the ground in Ho Chi Minh, but Ninja Teacher offer a kind of ‘meet, greet and eat’ welcoming to the city which would help all people feel a little more at ease when first venturing out into their new ‘home’. Ho Chi Minh is intense — it batters all your senses but in a good, nourishing out of comfort zone kind of way.

Day 1 of the course puts into no uncertain terms what the expectations are and how best to maximise your learning experience. This is important as it removes any grey areas and sets a clear path for all parties. Exciting and daunting described my initial feelings but once learning got under way these morphed into curiosity and a feeling of being challenged every day. Being challenged in a training environment is important. A balance between being pushed out of your comfort zone and not feeling overwhelmed is key to making progress and the course achieves this.

By the end of that first week, it was clear Ninja Teacher meant business! They commit to giving people a rock-solid foundation to teaching which can be built upon when the trainee finally becomes a teacher and steps into the classroom. Be under no illusion, this isn’t a ‘four-week instant teacher miracle course’ like the money-making rags to riches ads you see on the internet, but an intensive, emotional, challenging and above all rewarding experience which delivers on what it promises — that you will learn a lot about yourself and get a start to teaching in this incredible country.

Since I took the course, the trainer has changed but I need to mention Kyle, my teacher trainer. They say a business is as good as its product and, in this sense, the trainer is it. Kyle was knowledgable, empathic, hard working, expected as much from you as he put in, understanding and genuinely wanted you to ‘grow’. He was the product and you got total value for your money in him. The trainer has now changed but can assure you she is every bit as committed and effective as Kyle but wrapped up with a different look! Claire successfully continues where Kyle left off.

Finally, I took the view that teaching is a bit like driving. You don’t really learn to drive until after taking you test. The same is with teaching and the Ninja Teacher TESOL course is like getting a ‘licence’ to teach and then the real learning starts in the classroom. Be open-minded and curious and accepting of your new home, try not to resist and go with the flow and all will be good. All these months on and Ninja Teacher still has my back in regard to advice, job opportunities etc. You are never just a name badge for a month but part of an extended family that genuinely looks out for each other.

There are lots of options out there, and it can be a daunting task having to choose one which we can get the most out of, and that can lead us into a successful teaching career. I myself was faced with that reality when I was searching, that is until by accident I ran into YouTube videos of Ninja Teacher, I began to feel the difference from the first video I watched and for more than a year I kept following them, until the opportunity came for me to sign up for the course. I was not disappointed, it was worth every penny, among other things because you can sense the love for what they do, to them it’s not about the money alone, their instructors truly care for their students, so it’s almost like a good family environment.

When you join you get an added bonus, that is being in one of the best countries in the world.

Everything I expected from this company met my expectations. I started researching teaching English abroad a long time before I joined the program and eventually I couldn’t stop ignoring what would eventually be my intro to teaching English abroad. I started out hearing about teaching in Korea and found Alex’s YouTube channel. All through the years of my studies I learned about teaching English abroad. While researching I decided that Vietnam seemed like the right choice. Took the course. Learned a lot. Eventually, after working hard, found plenty of great options as soon as I applied. Got a great job! Have enjoyed my life in Vietnam since.

What went far was the hands on training.. I’d already done an online course and thought I’d be uncomfortable teaching with only that. So, I paid to have the practical training. Sure there were some hiccups here and there, as is normal in Vietnam, but the practical experience made me feel confident to apply for and take jobs in the market, and I continue to today in and out of Vietnam.

I completed my TESOL with Ninja Teacher in September 2019 and I can honestly say it was exactly what I needed. Coming from a background in fitness training I presumed I’d have the right energy for teaching but I lacked many of the basics for things such as classroom management and ESL methods. I’m happy to say that Ninja provided more than enough training and resources to make me feel confident stepping into my first real class in Vietnam. I also made new friends which to me was very important, given that I had just flown across the world solo. Ninja helped me so much with the job hunting process, I had 5 interviews and 4 job offers in only a week! I was also glad to have some time to become accustomed to life in Vietnam before working straight away. Overall I highly recommend this TESOL school and I believe that every staff member here has our (new teachers) best interests in mind.
