Description
We are one of only two universities in the United States to offer the world renowned CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Cambridge English Language Assessment.
CELTA is one of the most widely accepted TEFL/TESOL qualifications in the world. This 180 hour teaching certification program provides the skills, knowledge, and hands-on practice to pursue a rewarding career in teaching at home or abroad.
Being located on the Missouri State University campus allows trainees to take advantage of many resources and facilities other programs cannot provide, including a state of the art library, abundant computer labs, and world class fitness center.
In five full-time weeks, you will get experience and feedback teaching in-person and get the opportunity to interact with your trainers, peers, and students in-person.
The CELTA Mixed Mode course option gives you the best of online and in-person instruction, with opportunities to complete face-to-face instruction and online lessons.
The 100% Online CELTA has the same content and hours as the face-to-face CELTA – the only difference is the online structure of the course. You will complete all CELTA requirements from the comfort and safety of your own home. This includes:
- 4 written assignments
- 6 hours of observations of experienced teachers
- 6 hours of assessed teaching practice with international students
- Daily individualized assisted lesson planning time with your trainer
- Daily input sessions on topics related to teaching the English language
Your certificate will not specify that you completed the course online. You will get the standard CELTA Certificate, certifying that you have completed 120 hours of training. You will also get a certificate in Teaching English Online from Missouri State University.
Fantastic course. If you’re serious about teaching English, you need this level of training. The instructors, facilities, materials, and information you have access to are first rate. It’s absolutely worth the time, money, and effort. You’ll come out of it more confident and competent, with the skills for self improvement as a teacher moving forward in your career. It isn’t easy; there will be stressful nights of lesson planning and assignment revisions. I think actually reading the “suggested” materials before the course should be mandatory. I’m reading the books now after finishing, and I wish I would have been told to just go ahead and read them, rather than just recommended to do so. I would have greatly benefited from it. In fact, I’m fairly certain I would have performed much better in the course. Other than that, just come into it ready to work hard, be willing to take criticism, have a sense of humor, and you’ll do fine. It’s a tremendous confidence booster as a teacher and you’ll do much better by your students having completed this course.
