Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

I had a great experience doing my TEFL at Maximo Nivel. What I loved about it:

– A lot of support from academics, TEFL trainers and peers.

– Clear and easy teaching techiques that we got to practice on real students.

– Feedback from trainers for us to progress quickly.

-Being able to share this experience with peers. We would help each other through the learning part and also motivate one an other through this intense month.

I would recommend this Maximo Nivel to anyone who would love to teach English as a foreign language.

This course in Manuel Antonio has provided me with a life changing experience that I will continue to use in my future to fuel more exploration, adventure, as well as confidence in myself. I had never ventured out of the US and the provided homestay was the perfect first experience for me. I grew as a teacher throughout the entire course from day one. The course work was never overwhelming, and the instructor is amazing. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to open more opportunities for their future, especially those with a knack for helping others.

My teacher (Mackenzie) was a fantastic teacher. He was funny, engaging but most of all he knew what he was talking about. He used the TEFL techniques in order to teach the course. This means that each lesson teaches you the content but is also a model for you. Beyond the brilliant teacher the organisation is very well run. All the teachers will give you any advice you need. You are also provided with all the materials you will need both the course and for teaching which is beyond useful !!

The TEFL course at Máximo Nivel in Cusco, Peru is wonderful. I had a terrific time, met some great people, enjoyed Cusco and all of history and majesty surrounding it. The best thing, however, was the amazing TEFL course, the wonderful instruction, the Practical Teaching Week, the extra help that’s always available, the dedication of the TEFL team and the support from the entire Institute. Our teachers, Sean and Wayne, were incredibly kind, generous, knowledgeable and experienced. There’s a lot of work, but I feel prepared to take my first step and begin a new career as a teacher now. I can’t imagine I would feel ready without everything I learned in classes, via observations and practical teaching. I cannot emphasize enough how dedicated and professional this course is. Down to the materials: excellent. If you really want to learn to teach, then go to Máximo Nivel, where they will put you on the path to become the best teacher you can be.

Initially, I had some questions about the need to take a formal course to teach English abroad. What I discovered over the course of the month’s instruction, however, is that there is a great deal to be learned relevant to this specific area – even for a person who has a background in teaching and a reasonable level of intuitive ability. I also discovered that there is a standardized, evidence-based program to teach the English language that has not only been devised for use at Máximo but has wide acceptance and applicability. Through my teaching week and class observations, I was able to see first hand the advantages of utilizing the techniques of the program in that classes where the techniques were implemented were significantly more successful than times when the techniques were not at the forefront.

As for the particulars of Máximo specifically, I can say that the instruction was top shelf. The head instructor’s dedication and knowledge were of a calibre rarely seen in any context and his humor and patience added levity to the rigor of the program. The structure of the program was also superb in that all pieces of both academics and practice fit together like a well planned puzzle. All of the staff seemed genuinely enthusiastic and caring and you never once felt that you were left to your own devices if you needed assistance in or out of the formal school context. If you are serious about doing a good job teaching English abroad, I would highly recommend you taking this course at Máximo Nivel.

This TEFL course has opened my mind for learning and teaching in ways that I couldn’t imagine. This class allowed me to gain confidence in talking to people of different cultures, confidence in portraying and educating a message to students, and gaining the right knowledge to conduct any class.

I had a wonderful experience taking my TEFL certificate through Maximo Nivel. Manuel Antonio is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It truly has it all, from breathtaking waterfalls to relaxing beaches, with no shortage of adorable monkeys. The course itself was also amazing, it is really well structured to leave you feeling ready to teach English, and it comes with the best TEFL trainer out there. My teacher Jackie was amazing, she brought an amazing energy to the class, always going above and beyond to find creative ways to teach and keep us engaged. She always made herself available to answer all of our questions whether they were about TEFL or just life in Costa Rica she made us all feel super supported at all times. She always gave us really thorough feedback for our practical teaching, helping us grow and improve. I absolutely loved this course and I feel very prepared to go and teach!

I would encourage anyone who has the chance to take this TEFL course! Máximo Nivel has great facilities and amazing staff. I was always made to feel comfortable no matter what the situation and I was helped many times. My instructor was incredible and left me feeling ready to teach right away. Not only did I leave more knowledgeable, but much more confident!

This TEFL course is amazing! The instructor Mackenzie Tucker is incredibly competent and goes above and beyond for his students. The course is challenging, but very well organized and offers plenty of support to make sure things are getting done on time. It also offers a week of practical teaching and mini lessons on Friday to get the TEFL students more comfortable with being in front of real students. For me personally, this helped a lot with motivating me in my TEFL as I started out very nervous and not sure if teaching was my thing. Being pushed out of my comfort zone really helped trigger an interest in teaching while doing the course. They also offer lifetime job finding assistance which I find an incredibly helpful resource to have. Overall, I would highly recommend this course for anyone that thinks they may be interested in teaching English as it opens a lot of different opportunities up.
