Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

Excellent, thorough course. I feel very prepared to teach after finishing! Sean is an incredible instructor that is always willing to go the extra mile to help his students. Maximo Nivel has amazing resources for everyone, TEFL students especially. 10/10 recommend!

I absolutely loved the TEFL course! Don’t be fooled, it is hard work, but it is totally worth it! The teaching itself was amazing, Jackie kept each lesson fun and engaging, while ensuring that we understood everything! The content of the course is actually really interesting too, which always makes things easier! The Maximo centre was great fun, there were always people about which made it really easy to meet people and make friends. The staff are all super friendly and helpful, going above and beyond where they can! Manuel Antonio itself is also lovely! There is so much to see and do there, you will never be bored!! Overall I had a really great experience and would thoroughly recommend the course and the centre to everyone!

If anyone has any doubts about doing the TEFL Program with Maximo Nivel (specifically in Antigua) I would say, without a doubt, to do it! Not only does it give you a chance to experience a little bit of Latin American culture if you haven’t before, Maximo also provides Spanish classes to help you improve your level of Spanish if you need it which is a big plus. The TEFL program is great but I believe a lot of it is mainly because of the instructor. Mackenzie, who is the TEFL instructor in Antigua, has a lot of experience being a TEFL teacher and now being a TEFL trainer. One of my favorite things that he does is that the techniques that you learn on how to teach English he actually uses them in the classroom on the TEFL students. It gives you an opportunity to see them implemented every day and helps to reinforce them.

Another great thing about the program is that it forces you to start using the techniques right away so that by the time you get to Practical Teaching Week you already have some experience and feel more prepared.

When I started the program I didn’t even know if I wanted to teach English much less what I was going to do afterwards but now I’m teaching English in Guatemala! If anyone is one the fence about doing the program I say to take a leap of faith and just do it!

This was an absolutely amazing course and I can not recommend it enough. It’s content was full and in-depth, and the practical teaching was a truly wonderful experience as the students were eager to learn. The instructor, Sean B. Barter, was one of, if not the best teacher I ever had. I also made great friends with my classmates which makes the experience all the better. I received what I expected and more from this course and was so sad when it ended. To anyone wanting to teach a language: This is the place to learn how.

I never thought about being an English Teacher, but the day I discovered Maximo Nivels TEFL Program, my whole career changed it’s course to being an ESL Teacher. Sean Barter is a great ESL Trainer and person. If you take Maximo’s TEFL Program you will not be disappointed.

The TEFL course with Maximo Nivel is great, I really enjoyed the classes and the institute. Our teacher Jackie is amazing, and made everything so much more fun and enjoyable and really cared about her students, and all the other staff are lovely too. I felt like I learnt so much over the course and practical teaching week really helped prepare us for the real world. I really loved my time there and would highly recommend.

I had a phenomenal experience in the TEFL course at Máximo Nivel. Jackie was a wonderful and inspiring teacher. She cared deeply for her students and about the material. She made class extremely interesting in a way that kept students engaged and gain a deeper understanding. I feel prepared to teach after the practical teaching and constant feedback from this course. It was an excellent launching pad into a new country and culture.

I wondered at first whether it would be worth it to do an in-person course. After all, online is more affordable and can be done at your own pace. However, I am leaving this 150 hour course with a level of confidence in my ability to teach English that I do not think I could’ve gotten from an online course.

Mackenzie is not only a master TEFL teacher himself, but a master at teaching TEFL. In other words, he uses the principles of TEFL on his students, getting us future English teachers to empathize with students learning English as a foreign language, and invariably to understand the “why” of TEFL. He always kept us on our toes in the best way. For much of the course, I wished for more time in front of actual classrooms—more than our 20 minute mini-lessons on Fridays and occasional pop-up vocab workshops—but I ended up feeling that our last week, Practical Teaching Week, was sufficiently challenging and useful. Lastly, Mackenzie and Maximo in general are extremely generous in their help with figuring out your career path as a TEFLer.

If you want a ticket to a life of travel but don’t know how to teach—or if you’re like me and have experience tutoring and teaching, but not to students of ESL—I strongly recommend Maximo Nivel – Antigua.

I spent Mid-September till Mid October in the TEFL course here in Peru and am very satisfied with the outcome. My instructor, Sean, made this process easy, exciting, and fun. I was a bit suspicious of being able to learn all the tools I need in four weeks but here we are. Feeling very confident and excited about these next steps!!

The time of my love !

Not only did i learn TELF but also discovered new things about myself !

A month of so much laughter, stress, sweat yet rewarding ! TELF course was the best choice I’ve ever made. A lot was learnt, not only that but had the opportunity to teach for the whole week that was my practical teaching ! Oh boy ! A lot of preparation, anxiety, all sort of emotions. But once you bulid that great rapport with students you realise all was worth it ! The laughter that fills the classroom was all I need oops! Most important when they get most things correct, doing their work gave me so much confidence that I can do it. Identified my mistakes and got to learn from them in that week 😌 what an amazing month !

And I got a TELF TRAINER FOR LIFE !
