I finished the Celta course at St Giles in Brighton last December. It was very hard work but a hugely rewarding experience. The tutors were the best teachers I’ve ever seen and the lessons they gave were second to none. It is a beautifully planned and well run course, but be prepared to be challenged on all sorts of levels. I am currently sweltering in Phnom Penh, putting some of it into practice.

I did my CELTA at St. Giles a few years ago. It was an overall good learning and social experience, however, I’m disappointed with tutors.

Unfortunately, I left on a very sour note. I tried to add a little bit of humour in my penultimate lesson, and it seems something I said had touched a nerve with one of the tutors. In the post-lesson feedback session rather than take me to one side and address the issue privately, he proceeded to scold me like a child and humiliate me in front of my peers. I found this very upsetting and incredibly unprofessional.

Furthermore, the other tutors chose their favourite students early on gave them more focus and better, more personalised feedback. People like myself suffered from very generic feedback.

The school does post jobs regularly, via email.

If you’re looking to pass a CELTA ‘under the radar’ then St. Giles is for you. If you’re looking for a quiet location away from central London, St. Giles is also great for that. But if you’d like the tutors to give you better assistance and personalised feedback, look elsewhere.

Did a CELTA course at St Giles in Highgate last year. Excellent trainers, lots of support and a lovely learning environment. Am now working in the ELT industry and plan to do so for some time. Thanks for St Giles Highgate for a fantastic experience.

I completed the TESOL Course at St Giles London in April 2016.

The course was tough, thorough, compact, entirely topic specific and extremely well taught.

In spite of having appropriate qualifications and work experience which complements the use of English

in a specific discourse – I had no idea how little I knew about grammar and pronunciation prior to my TESOL course.

Likewise although reasonably articulate I had no idea how to teach vocabulary and this particular feature was well

instructed by the trainers.

It should be apparent from the above that I found no fault with the course in terms of either content or the way it was taught.

Successful completion of this course is an invaluable tool if a desire to work in EFL is the end goal.

Being independently wealthy I went onto work in the developing world and teach I.E.L.T.S to adults and have accomplished some well referenced success.

Working voluntarily in places where technology is primitive as is material and general facilities are poor is of course a challenge.

It is more than compensated for by the level of appreciation and achievement of those I teach. Hard to put a price on that !

I accept my rather innovative ways of “old school” working may raise a few eye browses in the EFL industry and if so, fair enough I suppose.

None the less I would never have known where to start in such a nebulous subject had it not been for the highly capable trainers at St Giles and the utterly brilliant course they taught. The successes I have earned over hear in Kathmandu belong as much to St Giles as they do me.

Going forward the institution is fortunate to have a great co – ordinator who arranges C.P.D. classes and for those of us who attend we were lucky enough to have had a recent session with none other than Adrian Underhill.

I cant fault St Giles, its courses or its staff and I would be surprised if any former student could.

I took the one-month CELTA intensive course at St. Giles NYC in July 2017. It was a challenging but enjoyable experience.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The trainers were very professional and clearly knew their stuff.

We were a small group of CELTA trainees, which was a big plus for me. I felt the trainers were able to give each trainee more time and attention.

Overall it was a great experience.

I completed a Trinity course at St Giles Eastbourne in 2008, and thought I should post a review here as no one else seems to have done!

I had been teaching for two years before taking this course, and of all the things I learnt on the course, perhaps the most important thing was the realisation that I should have taken the plunge and done the course earlier!

I wont write too much about the course itself, that information can be found anywhere, but I will say a few things about St Giles, and my course experience there.

The two tutors worked perfectly well together, with a good balance between their personalities, skills and approaches. I was actually quite inspired by them really, and wished for the charisma of one, and the knowledge of the other. A good team I think.

St Giles Eastbourne is a nice school, conveniently located on the outskirts of the town, small enough for the experience to seem personal, big enough that you get a chance to meet and teach a variety of students in a nice setting.

The only downside, and I should mention one really…is that with a full complement of 12 trainees, the training room felt a little small sometimes. But that really is my only gripe, and its a small one at that.

On that basis, I am going to score 5 stars in the ratings box above in the first 4 categories, but slip to 4 stars on the lesson plan guidance. This is because I personally need more time to think over any changes to my lesson plans…Generally my lesson plans were reviewed in the morning, with changes to be made for my afternoon lesson. I guess I wanted more time than this, but this might be just me…in fact, I think it is just me….

I’ve then given another 5 stars, before slipping down to a 3 star for the job placement. I have given this a slightly below average rating as during the job placement input session we were introduced to a recruiter for ILA. The positions she was offering were for degree holders…and at that time, a number of the people in the room didnt hold degrees, so I felt jobs many of us couldnt apply for didnt really help. I didnt discuss any further options with St Giles, but in fairness to them, this was possibly because I already had work lined up.

Facilities and resources I gave 4 stars, as the training room was a little small as mentioned above.

Overally though…I really enjoyed my St Giles Trinity experience, and couldnt recommend them or the course high enough. Having spent a month learning how to teach at St Giles, I felt a lot better equipped to teach and have improved a lot as an EFL teacher.

St Giles Eastbourne is a great place to take a Trinity course, and is highly recommended IMO!
