Description

The OISE University of Toronto TEFL is an online TEFL certification course designed by a top-20 university worldwide. The OISE TEFL curriculum was created by award-winning education faculty at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. The course is administered by international teacher career site, Teach Away.

The OISE TEFL course from OISE at the University of Toronto prepares first-time teachers and experienced educators to teach English as a foreign language and secure teaching jobs abroad. The course can be accessed anywhere, at any time.

The course allows users to move through the online curriculum at their own pace. Students can choose to enrol in the 100-hour, 120-hour or more intensive 150-hour course options, and customize their training with units of specialization.

This was a wonderful way for teachers who may already have a teaching certificate to add to their teaching skills as well as for someone who is interested in teaching and may be looking for resources and skill building about good teaching practices. The online curriculum was easy to navigate, and the tips and resources made it easy to complete the lessons. Each lesson was full of important information with activities that directly related to the lesson. Feedback is quick and communication is thorough.

I found the course to be appropriately broad in scope and depth in detail.

I never experienced any technical issues and when I forwarded a question to clarify an issue, I received a response within 1 working day.

I thought this course was great, and I’m glad I chose it over the other options because it was a good fit for me. I like how it was completely online and self-paced so I could work on it whenever I had time in my schedule. You have a full year to complete the course, so that worked well for me because I was also a full-time student at the time. There was no teaching practicum included in this course, but I still believe it provided me with enough knowledge to confidently teach and create lesson plans. Be careful not to press “Start Over” on the modules if you want to review them. I did this once on a journal entry submission and lost my grade for the journals. Thankfully, the team was very helpful and quickly helped me resolve the issue.

Both the OISE course and Teach Away platforms were very user-friendly and easy to navigate. Using both platforms, I found so much information about the course and about finding teaching jobs. I never felt lost or confused. I also applied to a “teach abroad” job in Spain through the Teach Away job board, and I’m excited for that adventure!

The content was relevant for my needs, very well structured, and explained really well.

The support team was extremely responsive and helpful.

Now after completing the course, I can see there is continuous support for helping me in a potential job search.

The TEFL online program was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What I was unsure of was the support post-training. I receive some auto emails, but thought the support would be a little more proactive. I have put into practice what I have learned and look forward to gaining employment once things open up. Thanks.

Let me start with the few good points about this course. The content is useful and they do have good resources to supplement their content. However, there are more bad points that need to be addressed. First they take way to long to send you anything. If you are a serious business then you prepare what the client paid for when you receive payment. You do this so that when someone finishes one of your courses you can send them the certificate right away. I finished their 120 hour TEFL course at the end of March and as of the beginning of this month (July) there have not been any emails from them about when they are going to send it. They did email me a digital copy after I finished the course but some places won’t take a digital copy and if you have a digital copy why can’t you print it? I didn’t pay these people for something I can make in photoshop by myself. Second, the feedback on the writing journals is a joke. A lot of generic comments that make it clear nobody is actually reading anything. Third, you have a year to finish the course but if you get through the course in a few months like I did then you are shut out. If you want to back and look at your notes or download a resource you can’t. If I have a year to finish, I get access for a year, regardless of when I finish. Fourth, I don’t think they actually check that their resources Are up to date. There were some resources that directed me to a webpage that no longer existed or a link that wasn’t valid. Overall I would recommend the course but just barely so beware.

I have just recently completed the TEFL online course with the University of Toronto and I must say that it was an impressive course. You can go at your own pace and finish the journals as you like. Furthermore, the modules and lesson are very informative and through. There are also teaching aids that you can download for your own use. I found these to be very helpful. Moreover, there is support readily available should you face any technical or course related difficulty.

I also do not come from a teaching background but at my first interview, the interviewer was very impressed with my knowledge and I may have secured a place for the near future. Overall, I would take another course online with them and I would also recommend this course.

I have taken this course between June and August 2013 and then two modules which were Teaching English for Young Learners and Business English.

In a modern environment and completely on-line delivery this course taught me everything I need to have the confidence to apply for a TEFL teaching job. The course has a lot of video and audio that add more to the information and advice from the experts. I think that this course fully covers the theoretical and practical aspects that you might need to know to be a successful teacher. I highly recommend this class especially that it is backed by Teach Away’s support for you to find your dream teaching job.

I completed the course this past May and it was great. The content was insightful and thorough, and the best thing was the ease of access. Having a full time job, I mostly logged-in on my way to and from work and in the evenings. I completed the course in 2.5 months time without much stress.

My background isn’t in teaching, so I was hoping that having this certification would open up more doors for me to teach and travel overseas. The people at Teach Away have been in touch since to help me with job search and it seems like I might be able to secure a position for next school year!

All in all, great course! Would highly recommend.

I enrolled for TEFL Online through the University of Toronto not long after graduating as I was looking for a TEFL certification to help me get a job abroad. The course was great, full of interesting information and advice on how to be a better teacher. You can work at your own pace which was good as I was looking to get through the course as quickly as I could and start applying for jobs. Although challenging, I found myself getting through the modules at a good pace.

After I finished the TEFL course, I am delighted to say that I had my consultation with Teach Away and I have managed to secure myself an ESL teaching position in Chile…I can’t wait.

All in all, a great experience and I would highly recommend this course.
