Ladies and gentlemen, your voyage of discovery starts here!

i found myself at a junction in my life where I needed something to focus on, to give me a new direction with the aim of getting out and about, to throw myself in at the deep and and survive on my wits. I spoke to a chap, he had done a TEFL, it sounded right for me.

I had spent a week searching for a TEFL course and found myself put off by other websites that did not have a believable name, most of them seemed quite vague and as though they were a figment of Mr Disney’s imagination. Then i came across i-to-i and thought this sounds familiar, I gave the website a good look over leaving nothing untouched, after all you are parting with your hard earned cash and you want to know that something is real, right? having had my assignments marked by real tutors and had phone conversations with genuine people I feel I made the right choice.

The course has been laid out in such a way that you learn from the very beginning with the natural progression through the skills. Its not all about drumming you full of grammar to the extent that you should be working at Oxford or Cambridge, but more to fill you with the techniques of teaching, the delivering, lesson planning and job seeking.

I have done the 120 hr online TEFL course, I’m about to do another here at i-to-i.

Regards

A happy customer!

I’m a 55-year-old Dutch teacher, teaching Dutch and home-economics in middle school (students aged 14-19). I have been teaching children in pre-school and primary school too. Some 10 years ago I got a master in typewriting and wordprocessing. My husband and I are thinking of relocating in Spain. Exploring Spain, I learned that Spanish people hardly speak English. When I had an accident and went to a hospital, the physician asked me if I was willing to help her children with English, because I spoke the language so well. I was very surprised and talked it over with my principal, who used to teach English. She advised me to search the Internet for a TEFL-course. This is how I found i-to-i.

The course was very challenging as everything, of course, was in English. My English improved a lot. The teaching part was less important to me, as I already have 30+ years of experience. However, teaching ideas have changed last 10-15 years and it was nice to learn how lessonplans in the UK are constructed. It is a totally different approach from the Dutch lessonplans.

I liked the course. I did the A and B part, but I added a few smaller course, like one-to-one, teaching in Spain and the extra grammar course. I attended one webinar. That was a whole new experience for me. I loved the concept. Alas I wasn’t able to attend more live webinars, but I watched a few recorded ones too.

Last week, June 1st, I finished my last assessments. The assessments helped me to focus on the UK style of teaching. Fortunately I was lucky enough to get all my assessments back with positive gradings the first time I sent them in. Every assessment was graded within a few hours, the record being 30 minutes. The critics were adequate and very positive. The tutors were very professional, in my opinion.

So now I’m awaiting my certificate(s).

I studied for the 120-hour online course and 20-hour in class training. I found the overall content of the course to be extremely helpful and very in depth for someone who has had no previous experience in teaching and I certainly left the course feeling more confident in my abilities. I enjoyed the practical teaching experience as I left with a lot more ideas on how to manage a classroom and run a lesson. The tutor had over 10 years of TEFL experience and it really showed. It was helpful to play the games, etc. like we were students so you could see what works. I would perhaps have preferred teaching not just fellow trainees and having the chance to run a lesson on my own as planning a lesson with a fellow trainee sometimes made you feel your efforts and abilities were being hampered if you had conflicting opinions on how the class should be run. The feedback on lesson plans was very helpful, for example, when you were asked to design your own activities or choose your own topic. Feedback was always of a high quality and received in a very short amount of time. Even when I failed my first attempt on a checkpoint I was given reassuring advice which stopped me worrying before I resubmitted my attempt and passed. For some of the checkpoints though, the feedback could have been a bit more detailed though I suspect tutors have a lot of work to go through so this may not always be possible. There is always a good variety of resources accompanying the module that I often referred to when completing the checkpoints. I particularly value the phonemic typewriter.

Overall a great experience and I am confident now I can be a TEFL Teacher!

I completed Course A and B (120 hours) in two months. I have been a classroom teacher and Special Educator for 39 years in Canada and I have my MEd degree. I retired from my teaching position to look for a new exciting job.

From my perspective, the courses were excellent! The content is current and relevant to students today. The teaching methodology promotes engagement and active learning rather than lecturing. The Progress Checks at the end of each unit are marked instantly after they are submitted. The Checkpoints require thoughtful, creative answers and a synthesis of the content which will serve new teachers well. The office staff, Helpdesk, and tutors are all supportive and encouraging.

I have accepted my first job as a TEFL teacher in Qatar starting in August. I know that my TEFL training will help me be a better teacher in my new career. I believe that i-to-i TEFL is helping new teachers teach around the world with knowledge, enthusiasm, and a commitment to quality education.

Please note that I did not complete the practice teaching nor access the job placement options so they are not rated.

I took a 120 hour online course with i-to-i in December 2014. I finished by the end of January 2015 and passed both sections ‘A’ & ‘B’. I already teach in a school, but we get to use ready-made lesson plans and resources so I was really happy to learn through i-to-i how to make proper lesson plans and explore so many good resources. The course material was beautifully put together and I learnt a lot of new techniques and methods. I was also very impressed by the quality control, feedback and guidance of the instructors. There were times when I had to do my assignments in a hurry due to pressures here so some of the assignments were not upto the standard of i-to-i so they were sent back with some helpful remarks and reminders for which I am very thankful. Teaching now has a whole lot of new meaning to me and is much more satisfying.

I really enjoyed this course and it was fascinating in all aspects. I learnt loads about teaching and specifics The feedback on assignments was quick and helpful. The only improvement I would suggest would to be have actual classroom practise as some schools look down on the qualification as a result.

I enjoyed my course, but wished my 20 hours practical was at an actual school, instead of a boardroom..but the theory was good, and goal directed.

I enjoyed the course, and would recommend it.

Fulfillment, that is what I felt after completing the course. I completed my i-to-i TEFL course a few weeks ago. This course thought me a lot about myself, things that I thought I knew and even introduced me to concepts that really made me think out of the box. The amount of effort that goes into giving detailed feedback about the assignments was encouraging and awesome. The course material was fairly simple to understand. I am currently in the process of looking for a job abroad. I would really recommend this course to anyone looking to not just feel fulfilled and travel the world but also add value to those you meet in the classroom.

I took up the course initially out of interest. I am a trained secondary English teacher with a Grad Dip in Early Childhood Literacy and have always had a hankering to do some ESL teaching. I love reading about the English language particularly debates about grammar. I was amazed at the way grammar is treated. It is so different from the way I taught it to my Australian students. In essence, I didn’t really teach it as grammar, but encouraged kids to read widely and then write with my role being for them to analyse their work critically themselves according to set criteria. I loved the way you approached grammar teaching by defining structures and then showing how to put them into practice.

I enjoyed the set assignments, finding them challenging and relevant according to the course outlines. I must admit I found the non-assessable bits frustrating particularly as the early questions were based on semi-cloze work with the first letters of answers being provided and when I couldn’t find the answers! Things got better however after the first couple.

The pronunciation sections were fascinating and challenging as were the assignment questions. This is the area I would like to do more work on.

I haven’t applied for any jobs yet, feeling I need more work particularly in face-to-face teaching and more critiquing of my performance. I will apply for more courses when I have time to devote to them.

Congratulations on the course structure and the encouragement you gave as I laboured away in the solitude of my home office.

Please ignore my rating for job placement as I haven’t tried to use it.

(My computer wouldn’t remove the one-star rating).

I have been so impressed with the guidance and content of the Professional TEFL course and honestly would recommend it to anyone! The help I originally got as well as my many concerns regarding work opportunities in China ( I am not that young!) were so professionally dealt with and I am getting to the point where I feel ‘addicted’ to the online course! My checkpoint was so speedily marked and feedback given! I feel this course really prepares the FL teacher and as I am a teacher already, I can vouch for the accuracy and advise first hand!

Well done i-i TEFL!!
