Chiang Mai University’s Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate Program (CMUTEFL) is Chiang Mai’s only 4-week university approved TEFL certification program. This course offers university standard instruction for those who are interested in learning how to teach English to non-native speakers of the language, whilst at the same time immersing themselves in the culture and customs of Thailand, providing a holistic and rewarding experience

CMUTEFL will be operated on the main campus at Chiang Mai University. The university campus provides the perfect setting for academic study and recreational activity. Language Institute Chiang Mai University will provide the setting for the CMUTEFL training at its multi-purpose language and training facility.

It could be that the area of teaching with the most employment prospects for graduating teachers is Young Learners Teaching, including Kindergarten. Knowing how to teach young learners and being able to demonstrate this to future employers gives graduates from the CMUTEFL program an advantage in the jobs market. For this reason the four week course has two “Teaching Young Learners” workshops, covering every aspect of the theory and practice of how young learners learn and effective classroom practice, including materials production.

Teaching English is a rewarding experience and an excellent way to explore the world. Students who graduate from CMUTEFL will have the opportunity to teach not only in Thailand but across the globe.

I completed my studies on 21 November 2025.

A unique TEFL course program is offered by Chiang Mai University, which is a top 3rd/4th university in Thailand.

A program has covered many essential English teaching topics, e.g., pronunciation, young learner teaching, and others. It places more emphasis on speaking instruction skills, sharing idea technique, and clear communication methodology.

A special program which may not be fully compatible with every country and every society due to different education policies and situations, such as examination-oriented education, communication-oriented education, or others. However, it is worth to learn other teaching methods from CMU.

A single teaching methodology program/formula cannot apply to everyone and in every era, since no one is the same and society is changing.

I speak more with the instructors, and then I gain more insight from them.

What a wonderful experience. There’s a ton of really great information taught by some really great instructors. The teaching practices were so critical in my development as a teacher, I can’t imagine going without it. This course is well worth the time and cost!

The whole course is a great experience. By the end you will have covered the theory of practice of teaching adults, younger students, kindergarten and online. The teachers are knowledgeable and helpful, feedback is provided throughout the course. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to have the range skills to deal with students of all ages and skill levels.

LICMU TEFL is a fitting course as it supports aspiring English teachers with a solid foundation to start their journey as Educators. The program encapsulates English teaching techniques, methodologies, syllabus development, and practicum which enable participants to understand the teaching environment in various settings. The success of this intensive program should be attributed to the teachers. Their input, advice, and most notably, their empathy and support for the students throughout the course are commendable, as these contributed significantly to helping participants stay on track. The facilities, including the administrative staff at LICMU, supported the teaching team in providing the right environment, despite the intensity of the course. It was equally gratifying to note that the team assisted students with advice on job application processes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great Experience!

This TEFL course was intense, practical, and absolutely worth it! The trainers were supportive and knowledgeable, always ready to give useful feedback. I really appreciated the hands-on teaching practice—it was challenging at times, but it gave me the confidence to stand in front of a real class.

I recently completed the TEFL course at Chiang Mai University in February 2025, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. The program is gives me the skills and confidence needed to succeed as an English teacher.

The course covers all the essential aspects of teaching English, from lesson planning and classroom management to understanding how students acquire language. It is a in-person 4-weeks course. And what I appreciated most was how interactive and practical the lessons were—rather than just studying theory, we had plenty of opportunities to apply what we learned in real teaching situations.

The instructors were knowledgeable, encouraging, and always willing to provide guidance. Their years of experience in both local and international classrooms made their advice incredibly valuable. They created a supportive learning environment and provided constructive feedback that helped me improve my teaching skills.

One of the highlights of the course was the teaching practicum. CMUTEFL partners with local schools, giving us trainees the chance to teach real students at different levels, from young learners to university students. This hands-on experience was incredibly beneficial, allowing us to refine our techniques and gain confidence in a real classroom and online setting.

We may sometimes understand “Teaching English” is a kind or type of teaching that deals with English-In a simple sense it reflects or seems correct. But, what really is the wider meaning of teaching English when it involed with kindergarten, primary/high school, college or in university level? To know and to get the deeper, delve, developed and hands on practical English teaching – we need TEFL to understand the wider meaning of “English Teaching”.

I was searching with my passion for English Teaching where I should do my TEFL Course in anticipation that might give best, at least better, English teaching education for (different) kindergartens, primary/high schools, colleges, online or one-on one teaching? After repeated search I found Chiang Mai University In Class TEFL Course (CMUTEFL) as my landmark to enroll with. After finishing the course, now I realize how good decision I took to do my TEFL Course at Chiang Mai University in Thailand!

At Chiang Mai University in person TEFL Course, I found it updated, contemporary, state of the art, equipped with technology, suitable for any age- a certificate course which standard and quality are unquestionable. In addition, it is the only university based TEFL In Class course in Chiang Mai – few in Thailand indeed. We need to know that the course is not – learning English language; rather how to teach English as a language that very reasonably implicate practical teaching of English language in different level such as kindergarten, primary/high school, university level. Chiang Mai University TEFL has it all. As part of my course, I need to take practical classes in kindergarten, high school, university and online. Beside these highly important teaching practice classes, we had input sessions like, 4 skills of English Language learning, lesson planning, classroom management and dynamics, syllabus design, guided discovery, teacher talk, error correction with many other related subjects and topics.

Our teachers were tremendously knowledgeable, helpful towards us and were dedicated in teaching. It was teachers-students friendly learning, soothing academic environment as well as we hold respect for our teachers. Even after the course we get ideas and assistance from our TEFL teachers. University admin and logistics support were satisfactory and office staffs were always in contact with us about taking teaching practice classes either in on-site, off-site or online- thanks to them for their cordial assistance.

Let me give chance to make you imaginative perhaps by saying “Language learning is like ……. An instrument, building a house, falling in love, crossing an ocean whereas teaching is like ……. Gardening, firefighting, nourishing an infant, being a doctor- whatever it maybe, but to learn a language and to teach it, we must forecast these imaginary visions in our heart and mind that Chiang Mai University TEFL can shape us with these intrinsic notions to make us real, passionate, English Teaching loving professional- I owe to CMUTEFL !
