Those standards indicate what types of training employers seek.<\/p>\n<p>The organizations listed below, organized by country, provide directories of &#8216;recognized&#8217; or &#8216;accredited&#8217; educational institutions. Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">TEQSA defines itself as &#8220;Australia\u2019s independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education&#8221;. The website states that <em>&#8220;All organisations that offer higher education qualifications in or from Australia, must be registered by TEQSA. Higher education providers that have not been granted self-accrediting authority (almost all of the non-university providers) must also have their courses of study accredited by us.<\/em>\u201d At the moment TEQSA&#8217;s search tool seems to be broken, but you can search Google for &#8216;TEQSA&#8217; and &#8216;TESOL&#8217; and find listings for accredited programs on TEQSA&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"falist checkmark\">\n<li>Read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teqsa.gov.au\/what-we-do\">about TEQSA<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Search\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teqsa.gov.au\/national-register\">TEQSA National Register of Providers and Courses.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Canada\"><\/span><strong>Canada<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CICIC_%E2%80%93_Canadian_Information_Centre_for_International_Credentials\"><\/span>CICIC &#8211; Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CICIC is not an accreditor, it is \u201can agency of the Council of Ministers of Education of Canada\u201d. Their website <\/span>pulls together links to government departments, professional associations, legislation, and other resources related to qualifications in Canada. The occupation profiles section indicates the provinces and territories in which a profession is regulated&#8211; that is, whether it\u00a0<em>requires<\/em> a licence or certification. For teaching ESL at the college level, see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicic.ca\/938\/college_and_other_vocational_instructors.canada?id=530\">occupational profile for &#8220;language instructor.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You can use CICIC&#8217;s\u00a0Directory of Educational Institutions\u00a0to look up a TEFL training school to see if it is regulated or registered&#8211; it doesn&#8217;t necessarily need to be. In Ontario, for example, schools are exempt from having to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcu.gov.on.ca\/pepg\/audiences\/pcc\/register.html#who\">register as &#8220;private career colleges&#8221;<\/a> under certain conditions. TESL Canada accredits training programs in Canada for teaching adult ESL learners. It also provides accreditation to individuals who have completed TEFL training outside of Canada or through a course provider which is not recognized by TESL Canada. CELTA courses are offered in accredited centres worldwide.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"falist checkmark\">\n<li>Read\u00a0about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeenglish.org\/teaching-english\/teaching-qualifications\/celta\/about-the-celta-course\/\">CELTA course components and assessment methods.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Search for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeenglish.org\/find-a-centre\/find-a-teaching-centre\/\">CELTA Training Centre<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ofqual_%E2%80%93_Office_of_Qualifications_and_Examinations_Regulation\"><\/span>Ofqual &#8211;\u00a0Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ofqual is a &#8220;non-ministerial government department&#8221; which \u201cregulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England\u201d. Ofqual regulates several ESL teacher training qualifications. If a qualification is regulated by Ofqual, its register will list the number of hours required, assessment methods, which level it maps to in the nation&#8217;s qualifications framework, and so on. You can compare up to three qualifications at a time.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"falist checkmark\">\n<li>Read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/ofqual\/about\">about Ofqual.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Search Ofqual&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/register.ofqual.gov.uk\/\">Register of Regulated Qualifications.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Training_Qualifications_UK\"><\/span>Training Qualifications UK<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"highlight\">Recognized by Ofqual<\/span> &#8211; TQUK is an \u201cOfqual Awarding Organisation\u201d which has existed since 2013. The TQUK LEVEL 5 Certificate in TEFL is one of a number of qualifications which they award. They also offer &#8220;endorsed&#8221; courses in various subjects. An &#8220;endorsed&#8221; course is not the same as &#8220;regulated&#8221; qualification. The British Council accepts the CertTESOL qualification for teachers in schools that it accredits in the UK and abroad. CHEA reviews and grants recognition to accrediting organizations in the United States. From 1994 to 2015, it was called the &#8220;Distance Education and Training Council&#8221;.
