Five star overall rating and individual rating for each category. Great program, excellent instructors, feedback was very helpful, good and varied practice teaching, and excellent facilities and resources. Job placement was not applicable.

You couldn’t ask for beter tutors, they are friendly, professional and always give you good advice and feedback. The resources are fairly good and the staff is quite nice.

When I signed up for the CELTA at LSC, I had zero experience as an English teacher, and my grammar knowledge was mediocre. This course gave me all the skills, knowlege and practical experience I needed to confidently embark on my career in ESOL teacher. The teachers are amazingly competent, supportive and insightful. I would recommed this programme to anyone looking to begin a career in teaching, or to an English teacher who is seeking intensive professional development.

Excellent atmosphere for the students and the student teachers. Even better instruction by seasoned and qualified professionals. Over all, a very intense but VERY rewarding experience in a very friendly and comfortable environment close to Downtown Toronto, with a lot of good restaurants in the area.

Overall the course was excellent. The only thing I would have asked for is a little more focus on student evaluations (especially effective methods of level testing) and perhaps some 1:1 teaching tips.

I obtained my CELTA certification through the LSC in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 2008.
Overall, I found the course to be very effective. My instructors were knowledgeable and approachable, and I was pleased with the course content,
My only complaints would be the lack of technology in the classroom (I was expecting smartboards and laptops-not old cassette players.) and the way the course is only geared towards teaching beginner classes.
As for the job placement, I couldn’t help feel that LSC representatives consistently sent me very generic job advertisements, that is to say, the kind of jobs that do not require CELTA certification and that could be found on Dave’s ESL Cafe or any other ESL website. Other than these few things, the course was great. I would recommend it to anyone who is seriouis about teaching ESL. If you plan on simply teaching abroad for a year or two, then I wouldn’t bother- A B.A is enough.

The instructors were excellent. They were very personable and provided helpful feedback. In regards to resources for teaching it would have been easier to follow a syllabus and be expected to do expansion activities from that. For the most part we were trying to structure the lessons in order to fit in what was required for practice teaching. I think this was the nature of the intensity of the course as opposed to the centre that was offering the course. In addition we relied on tapes and tape recorders that are fairly antiquated in light of new technology available. This needs to be updated. Otherwise all in all an excellent course. In regards to job placements the job market is highly competitive at the present time and therefore people who are planning to take the course need to be aware of this.

The instructors at LSC are truely top notch and genuinely care about the work/needs/worries of the CELTA students. I was very impressed with the organization of the course and of the resources made available to us- it is clear that LSC has been running CELTA courses for many years, as they have figured all the nuances of the course (and the paperwork!) out.
I would urge anyone wanting to try out the CELTA course in the Ontario area (or visiting from overseas as one member of our group was) to do it at LSC- you will not regret it.

LSC Canada’s CELTA course was for me an exceptional experience. Being intensive in nature, it was definitely that! Stressful and sleepless nights should be expected. Even with those nights, I have to tell you that it was definitely worth it. The quality of feedback helped me to focus my lessons. People don’t give lip service. They look out for you. Their comments and honest feedback humble you where you are. You learn from mistakes in teaching.
Just a note about the facilities. More computers need to be made available for CELTA purposes, and more updated lesson books should be made available. Instead of cassette tapes that consume time in rewind and fast forward and keeping track of tape counter, they need more multimedia resources for training and for teaching practicum sessions. They need CD players, not cassette players. That is so very 80s!
The instructors – Gerald and Patrick – made the course both humorous and exciting to learn from. Though I would have liked more instruction rather than being broken off into groups, I realized that they fully lived and breathed what they expected people to teach. It was a rough introduction and transition for me who is very used to lecture. But it certainly caught my attention!
If you are considering prospective training, you will not be disappointed in the end. You will be well equipped to do the work!
I am pleased to recommend LSC Canada as a stellar training facility for CELTA courses – even with some tech inadequacies. It is the teaching style that will transform the old school in you and make you think outside the box. You know you want to!

I had a lot of fun working with other students and our instructors at this centre. The instructors were always very helpful and provided useful feedbacks for us to improve on. They also socialized with us frequently which made it a lot easier for us to express the difficulties and challenges we face when we teach. They also had a really extensive knowledge of the English language, often resulting in meaningful discussions of why the English language is so difficult to learn from the perspective of students.
You learn a great deal from this centre, not only in how to teach English but also how to learn English. It’s something you take away and not just thrown out the window the minute you get your certificate.
Great job guys

Overall I felt as though I really walked away with useful information and an innovative way of teaching. Everyone was really nice in terms of my peers and the instructors. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable.
On the down side I wish there was more help with job placement.

The instructors were both professional and personal. They pushed you and poked you as required. The feedback was of real help in recognizing and improving weaker areas. The job placement aspect did not apply to me.

I took this course a year ago, and it has certainly proved it’s worth. I’m currently teaching full-time in a highly-disciplined cram school in Taiwan. My boss took me on, despite my inexperience, because I was a CELTA grad, like him, and in his years of experience, those qualities meant something.
Simon and Gerald were fine instructors, direct and experienced. They have great attitudes, and don’t mind giving you access to their resources, even after you graduate the course. Before I studied with LSC, I wasn’t aware of the best ways to teach, and tended to be teacher-centered. However, there are many ways to arrange student interactions, so that you talk less, and they talk more, and thereby, retain more at the end of the day.
Grammar is my weak point, admittedly, and I do wish that there could have been more emphasis in the course that tricky grammar needs to be summarized succinctly. I’m finding that in the real world, grammar is something you need to whip up fast, like a magic trick or a comedian’s joke. If CELTA could pack us full of some “zingers”, it gets you out of tight spots where students want to know what it all means, behind the pages of rules. However, I’m being lazy. The truth is, you just gotta stick your nose in it, and summarize it yourself.
The time I spent in the class at LSC was valuable “real” time, showing me how CELTA strategies actually play out in a class setting. CELTA should take into account, however, that things are a little different at schools in Asia, where parents still feel comfortable with the old-school “drill” method of teaching for their kids. Although it runs contrary to CELTA teachings, there is some use to knowing how to drill fast and hard.
The LSC facilities are great, 3 spacious floors, clean washrooms, and tonnes of internet access.
There may be other cities where you can take your CELTA, or other schools, but as far as ease of travel, central location and shopping, and quality of education, I’d pick LSC in Toronto, Canada. Thanks, guys!

The guys at LSC Toronto really know their stuff. They’ll put you through your paces and make sure you’re fully prepared for whatever ESL students can throw at you. The instructors are adept at identifying your strengths and weaknesses (politely) and boosting both by giving you finely honed techniques that all rest on startlingly effective pedagogical theory. I would recommend this course for anyone with a free month who is interested in teaching ANY subject.
I can’t give them full marks in job placement assistance though, since that’s not really offered as part of their service. Also, their technology isn’t cutting edge; though it didn’t really detract from the program.
All in all this was a fantastic program implemented by fantastic people.
