International House World Review by Rebekah, November 7, 2008

I did my course at CLIC in Sevilla, Spain last year in October. I can sincerely say it was one of the best experiences of my adult life. I loved living in Sevilla, the course was quite challenging but there was still time to go out and have a blast in the city, in moderation.
The instructors were excellent, entertaining and informative. The format is great, teaching classes in the morning, workshops in the afternoon and lesson planning late into the night. All of the people in my class were also great and I made some lifelong friends.
The only problem was job placement, as an American it was impossible for me to find a job working in Spain as there are very few opportunities to get a work visa. BUT, I now work for Bridgelinguatec in the U.S. and it is a fantastic place to work as an instructor. I am planning on staying in the Bridge family no matter where I teach in the world!

I just finished my course in the IH Madrid program (part-time program) - amazing city to live in - the part-time option gives you time to enjoy the city some while you are studying. We had two teachers one was quite good and the other was nice enough but none of us were very happy with in terms of advice, expertise, assessment, etc. We had a class of 10 students. We would each teach once a week. The experience itself was wonderful, but the best part was really meeting the other students in the class and going through the classroom experience with them. I found the method used for instructing the English learners to sometimes be a bit elementary and not geared towards adult learners. I too am from the US, and yes, it was impossible to find work in Spain (work visa issues). I was a little disappointed because at my interview with International House, I asked about getting work and was not told that it is near to impossible for US citizens to work in Spain. I was told there were many companies seeking American English speakers - but if they are, they require you to already have working papers (which you can only obtain by being offered a job in Spain or by being a full-time student on student visa). I felt misled by this information, I graduated from the program in 3 months ago but have not obtained a regular teaching job. I am now searching for other opportunities aside from English teaching.
