The course content was perfect and I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The course was very interesting and challenging. It challenged you to be creative and to think outside the box. I loved doing the course. It is simple to understand and the subjects vary nicely.
But would have appreciated maybe a better grammar support.
I had no idea what I was doing or where I should be going : I didn’t know what a lower intermediate student was and what he should already know.
Maybe a syllabus to start from would have been useful.
Introducing to the different levels and what the students need to study in a more structured and detailed way…
I found the feedback from my instructor very useful and leading, I was able to review my assignements before the final mark which of course proved to be rewarding.
I would have liked a little more guidance and support with the grammar and maybe some help finding good websites to work with. I felt a little lost and on my own when it came to chosing a website to subscribe to for lesson tips and exercises and games.
I am very pleased with the course and am looking forward to getting a teaching job!!

I gave very high scores but I have reasons for this. English wasn’t my mother tongue so when I started this course I was very nervous but the guidance from my instructor helped me greatly. As a teacher, this course helped me so much in many different ways, from lesson plans, how to approach a class with students from a different culture… More importantly this course gave me a lot more confidence in myself as a person and as a teacher! The certificate helped me to find a better job (I am living in Taiwan) and to be a respected teacher. So, from my point of view, if you want to start a teaching career in English…TAKE THIS COURSE…you will not regret it! To finish, the price is affordable and it is well worth it! Three words to finish:

Overall, I learned a lot from this course and think that it was well worth the money and a great affordable alternative to the month long courses. I still felt that I had a lot to learn on the job but I think that would be true in any case. I didn’t use any job placement services from ICAL. I’m not sure I was aware they were offered.

I thought this course was great
Even though I had been teaching for quite some time before I took it, I still learned so much. The teachers are quick to respond to questions and offer great feedback.
Plus, it as helped me secure some pretty great jobs!
I gave 5 stars for all of the topics, even though I did use the Job Placement available. Students will find that by simply applying for jobs with this certificate on their resume, they will get quite a few offers.
Actually, I do the hiring at a university in Korea these days and basically, the hiring structure with regards to education (from the lowest credentials to the highest) is: BA, MA, BA + TEFL, MA + TEFL.
In conclusion, this certificate will help you increase your knowledge of teaching, while making you more attractive to employers.

I used to think I could do without a Certificate. Aterall, I am a college graduate and I do have real life work experience. How hard can teaching English be.

Well….
Teaching English requires a different set of skills. Everything from how you write on the board to how you would state a simple sentence requires a unique technique. ICAL was an invaluable tool for me as it equipped me with the proper set of skills that took a non experienced, never taught before rookie, and practically transformed me in a super star in my classroom.

I have been teaching in Korea for two years now and I sometimes find myself going back to my previous ICAL assignments to get ideas for my class. You don’t realize the true benefits until you are actually applying the methods that ICAL teaches and you see results in your classrooms!

I found the ICAL course to be very good but quite difficult. My instructor was highly knowledgeable and definately knew what she was talking about. I do feel however some of this information provided was subjective (perhaps leaning towards opinionated) but all of the information was helpful never-the-less.

I would recommend this course to anyone instructed in teaching English as a foreign language. I learned quite a bit from the course and feel it was worth the money.

I took the course two years ago and found it invaluable. At the moment, on the strength of the certificate I gained with ICAL, I am working in the UK at a residential school teaching English to groups of foreigners who come here for 1 or 2 weeks at a time.

Before I took the course I knew virtually nothing about the subject. By the time I reached the end of the course I felt I knew a great deal and was more than happy to find that when I was actually in a classroom I knew what I was talking about. The Modules were really practical; even now I go back to them occasionally to re-read parts and I’m still getting more out of the course even though I finished it some time back.

The website for the course is also first class; I still use the ICAL wiki a lot for all kinds of TEFL related questions. Whenever I need to know something I go there first as the material there is presented at just the right level for me.

One of the best things about the course was the tutor. We still keep in touch. She helped not only with the grading of my work and answering questions about the material, but also with all the things in the world of TEFL outside the course. We had conversations about finding work, for example.

I must say I was really pleased by the whole experience and I’d thoroughly recommend it to other people out there thinking of taking an online course. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

ICAL played a major role in my complete career-change. I’d always be grateful toward this institution for its contribution in my life and career and preparing me for this new and exciting challenge at this time of my life. The only real negative about this and any other online courses, is the fact that one doesn’t get practical teaching exposure; but then on the other hand, the online courses are there for us who either do not have the time, or cannot afford the very expensive full-time TEFL courses.

For those of you who are interested in trying this course, don’t even think about it just do it! This is a great course and it is very useful for working overseas. I found the tutor wonderful and very helpful. The course is based on things that you need to do everyday and it is realistic and useful. If you are concerned about time, well you acn do it aon your own time and finish it when you want. I was working 60 hours weeks, for six days a week but I still found time to finish the course. I am feeling quite proud of myself! I worked very hard for my certificate. The ICAL course was really a challenge, and with each module I gained more understanding and insight about issues specifically related to teaching non-English speaking students. My tutor’s comments and suggestions were especially helpful. He responded in detail, to my assignments, clarifying where I might need more help and offering praise when deserved. The online resources were and are an added bonus. I would definitely recommend ICAL to others seeking their TESL/TEFL certificate.
I have no immediate plans to teach, although I’d love the chance to do so. I will be checking into turning all the college credits I’ve stacked up over the years into an actual degree, so that I have a better chance of using my TESL/TEFL certificate.

I started the ICAL Online TEFL Training course over four years ago. I was impressed by the structure and organization of the course. I found the modules very challenging. I have nothing but good things to say about the course, the teacher, and my gained knowledge. I was actually very surprised at the breadth and depth of the course! I thought it would be some easy online BS course. How I was mistaken! It is a real course on the same level as one of my college courses. You do reading, they quiz you on comprehension, then you do a big homework exam to thoroughly test you. That compromises one lesson.

There were five lessons total. One of my favorite parts of this course is that you can work at your own pace. I stretched out my five lessons over 3 to 4 months because I was busy working and traveling. But if one really buckled down and tried to complete it as fast as possible, it could probably be completed in 3 weeks.

The content and style of the course was very practical. That practicality I surmise will be most helpful in the field. I found my teacher/tutor to be pleasant, timely, and fully capable. She made cogent points and insightful comments on my work.

I put down three stars for job placement and resources; however, it really should be an incomplete because I haven’t had need or tried to make use of either.

Hope this helps. Overall, I recommend ICAL.

Although I had already been an English teacher for two years, I found this course invaluable. I immediately put what I learned to use and improved both my preparation and in-class teaching methodologies. I took this course while working a full-time job and was able to complete it in under six months.

The reading materials were thorough and the feedback insightful.

I have already recommended this course to several people interested in improving their TEFL/TESOL skills and will continue to recommend it to those who ask me.

Also, ICAL has a wonderful website which includes a complete grammar guide, activities page, a wikipage and student forum that I still visit on a regular basis, as well as an online newsletter.

This course was challenging and very thought provoking. Even though I have some years of teaching experience I still learned a lot. Most of which was basic, but you really need to know basics for teaching. The course itself was very easy to understand, the layout was straight forward. Also the ICAL team are very helpful and always at hand if you need some help. The forums is also a bonus, being able to discuss the course with other students. After sending my completed assignment to my tutor, i usually waited a maximum of 4 days no more, for a reply. Each module is about 18 pages long, followed by an assignment, this is when the hard work starts. If you lack experience its ok, you can do a lot of research for ideas etc from the internet, and you can add those to your assignment as long as you write the source from which you got the idea. There is also the ICAL wiki, which has heaps of information, from classroom ideas to grammer. I really do recommend this course to anyone who is interested in teaching. The reason why i recommend this course is because it teaches you to think up your own lessons. SO many teachers out there spend hours on the internet, stealing ideas from other teachers to use in their class,(which is ok if you have that kind of time on your hands) but with ICAL course it prompts you to think, HOW to teach your students using your head. I didnt review “job placement ” because I already have a teaching job. best wishes to all you wannabe teachers!

It has taken me longer than I planned, but after a number of illnesses and surgeries, I have finished. I want to thank the administration and tutors for their patience. I have learned a lot and am glad I was able to take this course online.

I have been to China 5 times and know a lot of the problems with the Chinese language. I plan to offer a course to foreign business people to improve their English (there are a lot of Chinese researchers at pharmaceutical companies in my area). We have a Chinese ministry in our church so I have access to a number of Chinese nationals as well. There are also a lot of Chinese grandparents who have come to take care of the children while the parents are working who want to learn or improve their English as well.

Thank you ICAL for a good foundation. Another student I recommended to take the ICAL course has already signed up.

It is a pleasure to write this feedback about ICAL online TEFL training. I have never learnt so much is such a short time. My tutor was great, always helping me to reach my goals. This course is very flexible, and I could work and study at night, or whenever my son was sleeping. I recently completed my ICAL TEFL online training course and would like to thank the administration for its continually punctual service and my tutor for his excellent and very useful guidance throughout the course.

In terms of administration, I always got very prompt replies to all my questions, which is important in a distance-learning set-up. I appreciated this very much.

Though I had had extensive experience of teaching English in Japan, I found the course content and structure very helpful, not just in terms of the traditional grammar and lesson planning, but for the more subtle points about teaching diverse groups (gender, culture, numbers), which is often not at all focused on in such courses.

This leads me to my next point, my tutor gave me great advice and innovative ideas for developing my classes. I received my lessons back within a very short period of time, but my tutor obviously took his time to comment thoroughly on all my lessons, which I have kept and will use for future reference.

I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to teach, whether they have already done so or not, to take this course, because there is plenty to learn from it.

I just recently completed the ICAL certificate and I was amazed at the amount of feedback I received from my tutors. They were very helpful, insightful, and demanded the best effort possible. With their help it made the assignments very manageable to complete.

This course has helped me to become a better teacher. I have been able to use many of the methodologies and strategies employed by the course.

I first chose to complete an online TEFL course because I was having problems finding a job overseas. However, with a TEFL it helped to make me a more attractive candidate and I soon had less difficulty finding work.

I chose the ICAL course because it was well-known, reliable, and cost-effective. I’d recommend this course to anyone.

ICAL was absolutely wonderful.

Let me list the good aspects:

** Cheaper than anywhere I looked
** Extremely easy to complete
** Well respected, every place that I looked into working was happy with ICAL.
** I didn’t end up taking a job they found, but I had three sent to me within a week
** Did I mention incredibly inexpensive.

ICAL is great, especially for people with no teaching experience. The lesson planning was very helpful and I’m glad that we were given several scenarios to make lesson plans. My tutor, Larry, was great - always quick and very insightful. ICAL is a great place to review your teaching abilities for those who have teaching experience, as well as for new teachings like me who can learn a lot through the modules, the tutor, and the resources offered.
