As a mature person living in a foreign country and with no transport to take me from my country house to the nearest city I found the ICAL online course invaluable. The course content was perfect and I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The feedback from my tutor was very worthwhile and I have since built a very good business working from home giving private English lessons in person and over the telephone. Thank you ICAL.

The course was very interesting and challenging. It challenged you to be creative and to think outside the box. This has been very helpful now that I am working with adults and younger children on a private basis and the resourses available after the course have been great. My instructor was awesome and very timely in her marking and replys to the work were thorough. I would totally recommend this course.

I loved doing the course. It is simple to understand and the subjects vary nicely.
But would have appreciated maybe a better grammar support.
I had no idea what I was doing or where I should be going : I didn’t know what a lower intermediate student was and what he should already know.
Maybe a syllabus to start from would have been useful.
Introducing to the different levels and what the students need to study in a more structured and detailed way…
I found the feedback from my instructor very useful and leading, I was able to review my assignements before the final mark which of course proved to be rewarding.
I would have liked a little more guidance and support with the grammar and maybe some help finding good websites to work with. I felt a little lost and on my own when it came to chosing a website to subscribe to for lesson tips and exercises and games.
I am very pleased with the course and am looking forward to getting a teaching job!!

I gave very high scores but I have reasons for this. English wasn’t my mother tongue so when I started this course I was very nervous but the guidance from my instructor helped me greatly. As a teacher, this course helped me so much in many different ways, from lesson plans, how to approach a class with students from a different culture… More importantly this course gave me a lot more confidence in myself as a person and as a teacher! The certificate helped me to find a better job (I am living in Taiwan) and to be a respected teacher. So, from my point of view, if you want to start a teaching career in English…TAKE THIS COURSE…you will not regret it! To finish, the price is affordable and it is well worth it! Three words to finish:
JUST DO IT!

I really enjoyed being able to do the course on my own time. There was no course in TEFL in my city and my children were young, so I didn ‘t want to have to go away to take the training. I found the tutor to be very thorough and helpful in her evaluation of my assignments. I have since recommended the course to others.

I took this course many years ago (2001) so things might have changed since then. Overall, I learned a lot from this course and think that it was well worth the money and a great affordable alternative to the month long courses. I still felt that I had a lot to learn on the job but I think that would be true in any case. I didn’t use any job placement services from ICAL. I’m not sure I was aware they were offered.

I thought this course was great :)
Even though I had been teaching for quite some time before I took it, I still learned so much. The teachers are quick to respond to questions and offer great feedback.
Plus, it as helped me secure some pretty great jobs!
I gave 5 stars for all of the topics, even though I did use the Job Placement available. Students will find that by simply applying for jobs with this certificate on their resume, they will get quite a few offers.
Actually, I do the hiring at a university in Korea these days and basically, the hiring structure with regards to education (from the lowest credentials to the highest) is: BA, MA, BA + TEFL, MA + TEFL.
In conclusion, this certificate will help you increase your knowledge of teaching, while making you more attractive to employers.
Happy studies!

Dear Friends,
I have been a teacher in China for about 8 years. Presently I have had to come to Vancouver to help out the family. I am seeking to tutor English here to create an income while I am here. The need for ESL tutoring is very high here and I have put into practice many of the pointers I receive in your online newsletter. I have found that the ideas that I have gotten from you are really applicable to the people I come in contact with here who need help with English.
Even though I have already taught as a university professor in China, the information that I am finding here is invaluable.
I am working towards my certification through your study program at this time. Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Amy

I used to think I could do without a Certificate. Aterall, I am a college graduate and I do have real life work experience. How hard can teaching English be.

Well….
Teaching English requires a different set of skills. Everything from how you write on the board to how you would state a simple sentence requires a unique technique. ICAL was an invaluable tool for me as it equipped me with the proper set of skills that took a non experienced, never taught before rookie, and practically transformed me in a super star in my classroom.

I have been teaching in Korea for two years now and I sometimes find myself going back to my previous ICAL assignments to get ideas for my class. You don’t realize the true benefits until you are actually applying the methods that ICAL teaches and you see results in your classrooms!

Thank you!

I found the course to be instructive, challenging, and very helpful. I loved how it allowed me to work at my own pace and receive instruction and encouragement from a tutor. ( I didn’t rate the ‘job placement’ category because I already had a job via my own resources at the time I took the course.)

I found the ICAL course to be very good but quite difficult. My instructor was highly knowledgeable and definately knew what she was talking about. I do feel however some of this information provided was subjective (perhaps leaning towards opinionated) but all of the information was helpful never-the-less.

I would recommend this course to anyone instructed in teaching English as a foreign language. I learned quite a bit from the course and feel it was worth the money.

I took the course two years ago and found it invaluable. At the moment, on the strength of the certificate I gained with ICAL, I am working in the UK at a residential school teaching English to groups of foreigners who come here for 1 or 2 weeks at a time.

Before I took the course I knew virtually nothing about the subject. By the time I reached the end of the course I felt I knew a great deal and was more than happy to find that when I was actually in a classroom I knew what I was talking about. The Modules were really practical; even now I go back to them occasionally to re-read parts and I’m still getting more out of the course even though I finished it some time back.

The website for the course is also first class; I still use the ICAL wiki a lot for all kinds of TEFL related questions. Whenever I need to know something I go there first as the material there is presented at just the right level for me.

One of the best things about the course was the tutor. We still keep in touch. She helped not only with the grading of my work and answering questions about the material, but also with all the things in the world of TEFL outside the course. We had conversations about finding work, for example.

I must say I was really pleased by the whole experience and I’d thoroughly recommend it to other people out there thinking of taking an online course. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

The ICAL course is definately an excellent course. My mother tongue is not English, so it was particularly challenging for me, but with the help and encouragement from my tutor I eventually succeeded.

ICAL can really train you as a TEFL teacher from wherever you are in the world as they promise, and equip you with the proper tools needed to help you embark on your career as an English teacher.
Highly recommended !

ICAL played a major role in my complete career-change. I’d always be grateful toward this institution for its contribution in my life and career and preparing me for this new and exciting challenge at this time of my life. The only real negative about this and any other online courses, is the fact that one doesn’t get practical teaching exposure; but then on the other hand, the online courses are there for us who either do not have the time, or cannot afford the very expensive full-time TEFL courses.

However, I would like to submit that the ICAL-course is making up for the lack of teaching exposure by presenting a course with excellent course content. I really believe that I’d been well equipped as a new TEFL teacher by the time my last assignment was submitted. If all the ICAL tutors are as thorough and supportive as my tutor, then ICAL has a great strength in its panel of educators.

Great course! I can recommend the ICAL-course to anyone looking for an efficient online TEFL course which would prepare you thoroughly for the teaching job! And thanks ICAL admin for your excellent support through the duration of my course and also for assisting with my job placement. The position I secured through you in China is very rewarding and I enjoy nearly every minute of this! :-)

I want to express my gratitude to the entire staff at ICAL for creating and administering the TESL/TEFL certificate in a highly professional and helpful manner.

To begin with, the online ICAL TESL/TEFL Certificate course was very well designed to meet the needs of teachers worldwide who, for one reason or another, cannot afford to pay for or don’t have immediate access to a TESL/TEFL course in their area.

The ICAL TESL/TEFL course content matches that of those other supposedly elite TESL/TEFL course programs. Proof of ICAL’s reputation in the international TESL/TEFL market is reflected in the numbers of ICAL TESL/TEFL Certificate graduates who are hired and praised for their academic contributions by international employers.

Last but not least, the ICAL TESL/TEFL administrative team, led by Pete West, is always there to assist recent and not-so-recent graduates with any question or request they might have. I am glad and proud to be an ICAL TESL/TEFL Certificate holder.

I’ve been teaching English in South Korea for more than 5 years now. I’ve decided to do the TEFL course ’cause nowadays I have lots of time in the afternoons. I’ve just completed ICAL’s on-line TEFL course and I have NO REGRETS. It was definitely an eye-opener. My tutor, Ellen, was very helpful in her comments – THANK YOU ELLEN. Having completed the course, I wish to take my knowledge and teach in Europe in the future. Once again, THANK YOU to the ICAL team.

I found the tutor wonderful and very helpful. The course is based on things that you need to do everyday and it is realistic and useful. If you are concerned about time, well you acn do it aon your own time and finish it when you want. I was working 60 hours weeks, for six days a week but I still found time to finish the course. I think you can too. Good luck to all!

I had a really good tutor that pushed me to do my best and think outside the box. I turned in my last assignment on Monday and got my grade back this morning! :~) I’m so happy to have this part over and now I can focus on the next phase… Teaching English as a sencond language at a college in China!!! :~)

I have just completed the ICAL course and am delighted to have succeeded on a journey that was both challenging and thought-provoking. Sometimes there was little course content to guide you, but with much thought and a little research the ‘impossible’ became not only ‘do-able’ but self-satisfying as another mountain was conquered. I am happy I chose this course which encourages independence in learning, yet covers all the bases thoroughly, and provides sufficient information to point you in the right direction. This approach models real life, and in this ICAL is unique.

I am feeling quite proud of myself! I worked very hard for my certificate. The ICAL course was really a challenge, and with each module I gained more understanding and insight about issues specifically related to teaching non-English speaking students. My tutor’s comments and suggestions were especially helpful. He responded in detail, to my assignments, clarifying where I might need more help and offering praise when deserved. The online resources were and are an added bonus. I would definitely recommend ICAL to others seeking their TESL/TEFL certificate.
I have no immediate plans to teach, although I’d love the chance to do so. I will be checking into turning all the college credits I’ve stacked up over the years into an actual degree, so that I have a better chance of using my TESL/TEFL certificate.
Thank you so much.

I am so glad that I was able to complete this course before I started my job. I definitely feel more prepared to teach. My tutor, Larry, gave me great advice and ideas that I can’t wait to use in my classroom! Getting certified through ICAL was a great decision. I would have never been able to finish the course (especially so quickly) without the wonderful support and resources that I had, so I want to say thanks to everyone who supported me!

The modules, assignments and tutor feedback were helpful, but I think one of the most useful things was the recommended reading list given in the first module. Some of the assignments require thought and information outside of what you can find in the module, so this forces students to search for other resources — a skill I will no doubt appreciate when I start teaching.

I did the TEFL course with Teaching Practice. The feedback I got from my tutor was absolutely excellent and I can’t thank him enough for that. I really felt like I went from a newbie to a very competant teacher and my students really noticed the difference too! I got detailed notes on what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong with plenty of ideas and suggestions on how to make my teaching better and I really can’t stress highly enough how my teaching has changed for the better since I began the course!

Choosing to do my TEFL training through ICAL was a good decision. The tutor was very helpful and professional at all times, and always put so much effort into assessing my assignments in good time and with plenty of feedback. The admin team were also very good at assisting me whenever I had any queries. The course itself was extremely interesting and I learned i great deal of invaluable skills. The response time was excellent throughout the course. The online web-interface was very user-friendly and downloading course materials was simple. I would definitely recommend ICAL to anyone wishing to obtain quality TEFL training.

The ICAL course is very challenging and very enriching learning experience. In line with the course syllabus, the topics are well planned and presented. And the assignments are very challenging that they require us to really think and apply what we’ve learned from the modules exhausting our available resources and those found in different websites. Due to the personal business venture which I am still into, I stopped English teaching for more than 2 years. But getting an ICAL certificate and the invaluable teaching techniques that I learned, I can say I am ready to plunge into teaching again with greater confidence and enthusiasm. Thank you very much ICAL!

I recently finished this course. I would recommend it because it’s helped me develop confidence in myself as a prospective EFL teacher. The course modules were interesting, engaging and accessible, and the tutor support was very good. The assignments were pretty challenging but worthwhile and rewarding. My tutor provided me with lots of helpful comments and information, and always responded to my emails and enquiries pretty quickly.

I will soon be moving to Korea to start my new vocation as EFL teacher. I can’t wait! My thanks go to ICAL, and particularly to my tutor Jay, for providing an enjoyable and rewarding introduction to the world of TEFL.

I started the ICAL Online TEFL Training course over four years ago. I was impressed by the structure and organization of the course. I found the modules very challenging. Unfortunately, I had already started teaching in Budapest, Hungary and I didn’t have the time. About four months ago, I decided to continue the course. Even though I could find work without the certificate, I felt it would enhance the confidence of my current and future employers. Now that I’ve had a lot more experience teaching, I find this course even more valuable. Unlike before, I have a better understanding the teaching approaches mentioned in the course documentation. All of the examples given, I have witnessed or experienced firsthand. The pedagogical approach is sound and applicable in a variety of teaching situations. I must also express how helpful the administration was in making my learning process smooth. They responded to my inquiries and assignments promptly and with sincerity. My tutor, not only reviewed my assignments, but offered insightful comments I can use later. Overall I will recommend this course to anyone who would like to have a positive learning experience. Thank-you ICAL! I wish you all the best.

I just completed the ICAL online TEFL course. I found the coursework to be very straight forward. I completed the course in approximately 3.5 months. I especially appreciated the opportunity to work at my own pace. In addition, the tutor that I worked with was exceptional. I have nothing but good things to say about the course, the teacher, and my gained knowledge. I was actually very surprised at the breadth and depth of the course! I thought it would be some easy online BS course. How I was mistaken! It is a real course on the same level as one of my college courses. You do reading, they quiz you on comprehension, then you do a big homework exam to thoroughly test you. That compromises one lesson.

There were five lessons total. One of my favorite parts of this course is that you can work at your own pace. I stretched out my five lessons over 3 to 4 months because I was busy working and traveling. But if one really buckled down and tried to complete it as fast as possible, it could probably be completed in 3 weeks.

The content and style of the course was very practical. That practicality I surmise will be most helpful in the field. I found my teacher/tutor to be pleasant, timely, and fully capable. She made cogent points and insightful comments on my work.

I put down three stars for job placement and resources; however, it really should be an incomplete because I haven’t had need or tried to make use of either.

Hope this helps. Overall, I recommend ICAL.

Although I had already been an English teacher for two years, I found this course invaluable. I immediately put what I learned to use and improved both my preparation and in-class teaching methodologies. I took this course while working a full-time job and was able to complete it in under six months.

The reading materials were thorough and the feedback insightful.

I have already recommended this course to several people interested in improving their TEFL/TESOL skills and will continue to recommend it to those who ask me.

Also, ICAL has a wonderful website which includes a complete grammar guide, activities page, a wikipage and student forum that I still visit on a regular basis, as well as an online newsletter.

Enjoy!

Please note, I left the Practice Teaching rating blank because there was none offered for the online course, and the Job Placement rating blank because I was already employed and did not need to use that service.

I am currently not a teacher and did not know what to expect from this course. Although I am a native teacher, I found this course to be eye opening. It challenged be in my knowledge of the English Language. But more importantly, it gave me a lot of good ideas on how to approach communicating my knowledge of the language to others. My tutor was tremendous with her well placed and well described comments of my work. I totally recommend this to anyone who is interested in spreading the English Language to others.

The ICAL TEFL online course truly met my expectations. This was my first experience on doing an online course and I am very pleased with the results. The course content was practical and real-life. The administrative support was very good, they always responded promptly to all my inquiries. I found the most beneficial support I encountered was my tutor. She was knowledgeable, experienced and very professional throughout our interaction. I would definitely recommend this course.

This course was challenging and very thought provoking. Even though I have some years of teaching experience I still learned a lot. Most of which was basic, but you really need to know basics for teaching. The course itself was very easy to understand, the layout was straight forward. Also the ICAL team are very helpful and always at hand if you need some help. The forums is also a bonus, being able to discuss the course with other students. After sending my completed assignment to my tutor, i usually waited a maximum of 4 days no more, for a reply. Each module is about 18 pages long, followed by an assignment, this is when the hard work starts. If you lack experience its ok, you can do a lot of research for ideas etc from the internet, and you can add those to your assignment as long as you write the source from which you got the idea. There is also the ICAL wiki, which has heaps of information, from classroom ideas to grammer. I really do recommend this course to anyone who is interested in teaching. The reason why i recommend this course is because it teaches you to think up your own lessons. SO many teachers out there spend hours on the internet, stealing ideas from other teachers to use in their class,(which is ok if you have that kind of time on your hands) but with ICAL course it prompts you to think, HOW to teach your students using your head. I didnt review “job placement ” because I already have a teaching job. best wishes to all you wannabe teachers!

It has taken me longer than I planned, but after a number of illnesses and surgeries, I have finished. I want to thank the administration and tutors for their patience. I have learned a lot and am glad I was able to take this course online.

I have been to China 5 times and know a lot of the problems with the Chinese language. I plan to offer a course to foreign business people to improve their English (there are a lot of Chinese researchers at pharmaceutical companies in my area). We have a Chinese ministry in our church so I have access to a number of Chinese nationals as well. There are also a lot of Chinese grandparents who have come to take care of the children while the parents are working who want to learn or improve their English as well.

Thank you ICAL for a good foundation. Another student I recommended to take the ICAL course has already signed up.

Dear Friends–

It is a pleasure to write this feedback about ICAL online TEFL training. I have never learnt so much is such a short time. My tutor was great, always helping me to reach my goals. This course is very flexible, and I could work and study at night, or whenever my son was sleeping. So, after my son birth, I did not have much time to study and this online course helped me to archieve my goals and learn and receive a certificate in the end of the course! I am very proud and happy, specially that I finished the course, after working very hard on the assignments. It was not so easy.My tutor, she is fantastic, she could find a little mistake on my assignment, like a missing verb, or incomplete sentence, she was strict in order that I had to be very formal on my emails written to her. I liked a lot her way of correction was always a learning experience for me! I feel more confident to teach my students, and the ICAL videos are great, they give you many tips. I really recommend this course for any teacher that would like to improve their teaching. Thank you very much ICAL, Ellen, my tutor, for the support and help during this course. Thank you for all.

I recently completed my ICAL TEFL online training course and would like to thank the administration for its continually punctual service and my tutor for his excellent and very useful guidance throughout the course.

In terms of administration, I always got very prompt replies to all my questions, which is important in a distance-learning set-up. I appreciated this very much.

Though I had had extensive experience of teaching English in Japan, I found the course content and structure very helpful, not just in terms of the traditional grammar and lesson planning, but for the more subtle points about teaching diverse groups (gender, culture, numbers), which is often not at all focused on in such courses.

This leads me to my next point, my tutor gave me great advice and innovative ideas for developing my classes. I received my lessons back within a very short period of time, but my tutor obviously took his time to comment thoroughly on all my lessons, which I have kept and will use for future reference.

I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to teach, whether they have already done so or not, to take this course, because there is plenty to learn from it.

I just recently completed the ICAL certificate and I was amazed at the amount of feedback I received from my tutors. They were very helpful, insightful, and demanded the best effort possible. With their help it made the assignments very manageable to complete.

This course has helped me to become a better teacher. I have been able to use many of the methodologies and strategies employed by the course.

I first chose to complete an online TEFL course because I was having problems finding a job overseas. However, with a TEFL it helped to make me a more attractive candidate and I soon had less difficulty finding work.

I chose the ICAL course because it was well-known, reliable, and cost-effective. I’d recommend this course to anyone.

Let me list the good aspects:

** Cheaper than anywhere I looked
** Extremely easy to complete
** Well respected, every place that I looked into working was happy with ICAL.
** I didn’t end up taking a job they found, but I had three sent to me within a week
** Did I mention incredibly inexpensive.

ICAL is great, especially for people with no teaching experience. The lesson planning was very helpful and I’m glad that we were given several scenarios to make lesson plans. My tutor, Larry, was great – always quick and very insightful. Choosing ICAL TEFL on-line course was one of the best decisions I’ ve made. The course is great, not very difficult, teaches you the basics you need to know about teaching English. There is no pressure to finish the assignments on time, which is great if you have a regular job or if you’ re a student. Also, the price is definitely incomparable! My tutor, Sheila, was amazing, turning my assignments quickly with lots of useful comments. The ICAL web site is also very helpful. You can chat with other students about their experience or find out how to look for a job…
What can I say, I can’ t recommend a better course than ICAL. I’m looking forward to my new teaching career.

“It takes a big man to admit his weaknesses”–this is what the course will teach you.
Even though I grew up in an English speaking environment, the ICAL course had revealed the deep, significant gap existing between the ability to speak and the competence to speak CORRECTLY.
The language skills and knowledge aquired during the course, as well as the improved self-confidence in using the English grammar PROPERLY, will result in a sharpened attention while interacting with other people; they allow you to pick up on so many mistakes, that even (most of) the native speakers are making.
(One will be surprized how many spelling and grammar mistakes an English native DOS is capable of–15 errors within 8 sentences are no rarity).
However, the Ical-Wiki is one huge well, ready to satisfy anyone’s knowledge thirst; it is obvious that the people behind the ICAL ressources have a sound teaching experience.
While some of the assesment questions are not clearly understandable, there is a tutor responsible for you, who will do his best to answer any of your questions, within an amazingly short matter of time; that is, of course, if you are lucky and get a tutor like I had :-)
Last but not least, the course fee is more than acceptable; in fact, it is incredibly low, if you take in account all the services, the ressources, the trouble your tutor is going with his/her students, and so on.
In conclusion, it has to be said that taking the ICAL course WILL definitely improve your language skills, and it will unequivocally develop your teaching skills (some of which will come up to be under difficult circumstances).
Personally, I would surely recommend the ICAL course to anybody who plays with the idea of becoming a teacher, but especially those among them who want to make addifference.
Being a teacher is an easy task – being a GOOD teacher is a challenge.
And this is the goal that you can reach by taking this course, by paying attention to your tutor’s notes and suggestions, by honestly admiting that you will probably never be perfect.
By the way, becoming a teacher for financial reasons is not only stupid, but wrong.
My humble oppinion: a (good) teacher should follow this path ONLY if he/she is aware of his/her significant position, of the paramount importance of the job, and of the responsibility that he/she carries.

I had never believed in on-line education, until I started completing my TEFL course with ICAL. The modules are perfectly structured and I have plenty of time to finish them, research and review before I hand them in to my tutor.
With respect to my tutor (Larry) and the staff, they are very kind, use appropriate language, respond quickly and always very enthusiastic.
I strongly recommend the ICAL TEFL course to anyone who wishes to complete a quality teacher certificate.

P.s.: There are hundreds of dodgy companies out there trying to take your money and the disappear but the ICAL has proved the opposite.

I completed the ICAL certificate course in August 2009. I found the course both rewarding and challenging. One of the benefits of doing an online course is that you can put more time into the areas that are of interest you and spend less time on the areas that you feel are not as relevant to you. It also gave me the time to be creative when completing assignments. This meant that I could develop lesson plans more fully and create illustrations to go with my answers and worksheets etc. Being able to work from home also meant it was easier for me to research topics or to grab a relevant book of the shelf while answering a question. Of course, there is a wealth of information in the course modules themselves and on the ICAL website, but there were times when a topic interested me and I enjoyed having the freedom to research the topic more fully. Having put in the extra time, I felt more confident in my abilities and much better prepared to work as an EFL teacher.

Just as I was willing to go the extra mile, so was my tutor. I was surprised and impressed by the in-depth feedback from my tutor – especially given the price of the course. My tutor would further develop the ideas I had, make suggestions, and give insights from their career as a teacher. I really could not have asked for a better tutor, they surpassed my expectations in every way.

The course content prepared me well for my career as an EFL teacher, and I subsequently found work teaching adults in Germany. My colleague in Germany had completed a CELTA course, for which they had spent a great deal more money. Despite the extra money spent, my colleague had received less feedback and attention from their tutor, and (like me) had no prior teaching experience in a classroom environment. It is my feeling that I received a very high standard of education from ICAL and that I was well prepared when I began teaching.

Furthermore, it would have been extremely difficult for me to have completed a CELTA course – these courses often have to be booked months in advance and require you to reside in a major city for the duration of the course (four weeks in a major city without time to work can be expensive). The ICAL course really was a great deal – top notch education combined with complete flexibility at an extremely affordable rate. Furthermore, I got an excellent reference from my tutor at the end of the course and this reference made looking for work much easier. Even now I still reap the benefits of having completed the ICAL course. As a teacher, I still refer to the ICAL wiki, and, of course, I still use my ICAL reference. I recommend ICAL wholeheartedly.

Overall I had a very positive experience with the ICAL TEFL cert program. Above all, my tutor is what made the course stand out. She was always eager and encouraging, gave wonderful feedback, and got me excited about moving forward when I was stuck.

The coursework is laid out in 5 well-organized sections and they each address many applicable issues and environments of teaching. Although the assignments were challenging, I believe they were well designed to test knowledge gained through the readings and stretch the imagination to put the student in real-life teaching situations.

I’m very happy I took (and completed) the ICAL TEFL program and will hopefully soon find a teaching job!

ICAL is an excellent course to brush up on teaching EFL. The tutor is fantastic, giving in depth suggestions (yes, I was surprised as well!), the homework is actually hard and the course is extremely affordable. The only drawback is the actual teaching practice, but this course will give all it has to help you understand how students can learn from you.

Doing the ICAL course was definately one of the best decisions I have ever made. The course material is very comprehensive and educational. My tutor gave a lot of assistance and answered promptly with any questions or advice that I needed to complete my assignments. The assignments were graded fairly and within 2 or 3 days it was fully graded with comments that were very insightful. The material available on the ICAL wiki and on the Assignment Help section of the site was also very helpful in giving me support to complete the course. I never had teaching experience before and I thought the process would have been very overwhelming, but with the resources on ICAL and the experience and support from my tutor I was able to develop a ‘teacher-like’ way of thinking. This course is definately worth the money, I have already recommended it to friends of mine and I would recommend it to anyone else who is interested in pursuing a TEFL certificate.

The modules can be quite a challenge. But they’re designed to help you learn techniques not memorize answers. That’s what I believe is one of the most important carateristic about the ICAL course. Its very useful when you actually get out and start teaching.

I started a Masters Course at the University here in Castellon Spain as I was finishing the ICAL course. A lot of the pedagogical techniques were in the classes and they coincided completely with what ICAL was teaching in there modules. I found the content of the course very useful and have used many of the techniques in my English classes.

After studying the ICAL course my advice to future teachers of english as a second language, is be yourself and just be natural. Most students who want to learn English will connect with you faster.
Good Luck!

I was skeptical about taking a TEFL course online at first, but after taking the ICAL course, it was definitely worth it. I am leaving in a few weeks to teach English as a second language and have no experience behind me what-so-ever. I thought the price was decent, and it was actually after reading the reviews on this website that I decided to choose them as my course provider. I had a slow start at first and had to get the course done finished by a deadline in the end, and my tutor really helped me to have my work graded efficiently and to respond with great feedback too. All together, it probably took me about 3-4 weeks to finish the entire course. The assignments really made me think in a new way, and I had great practice creating lesson plans – something I had never done before and will definitely be doing a lot of in the future. I learned a lot from this course and will definitely be revisiting the resources when I am teaching in the near future!

I did the ICAL TEFL program mainly because its reviews were overwhelmingly positive. I plan to head to Asia teach ESL and wanted to get a better grip on the basics even though I’ve done a lot of tutoring already. I took me about 3 months to finish their course. Overall, the material was very challenging and helpful. However, don’t expect much from the administration or your tutor. What you will get from ICAL is 5 “modules” or sections which you will download, read through, then answer multiple-choice questions about online. Once you “pass” the “checkpoint” you will have an assignment to complete. I have found each assignment very challenging and well tailored to the content of the module. Once you finish your assignment you submit it to your tutor, then they rip it to shreds with snoody criticisms and return it to you for corrections which you must complete before you can proceed to the next module. That was my experience! LAME! My only complaint about the actual content is that it was unexpectedly difficult. I would recommend buying a good grammar book prior to taking their course, unless you remember all that stuff from grade school. Luckily I had some writing books from college that helped get me through or else I would be totally lost. So, my review is mixed. They will respond to your emails quickly and answer all your questions and their course content is pretty good, but you can quickly tell they are a very small operation and not very professional. They are probably the best online TEFL company, but for 265 bucks you really get what you pay for: a piece of paper.

I am going to travel Asia and teach English as a way to experience the culture and to pay for things while there, so doing a TEFL course was the obvious thing to do. I choose ICAL because of all the great review and didn’t like any of the other TEFL companies. I found the ICAL course to be brilliant, it was definitely challenging, but that is exactly what you need. It opened my eyes to what will actually be like teaching English as a foreign language. After completing the course I feel a million times more prepared to go overseas and teach. You have as much time as you want to finish the course which takes off a lot of pressure. My tutor was great and gave fantastic advice on my assignments. The feedback was always fast and communication between me and ICAL was great. I recommend this course to anyone who is interested in teaching!!!!!

The modules (I thought of them as “written lectures”) were highly informative, elaborate, and excellently written and organized. The assignments were quite challenging at times, and always systematic and thorough. I feel that I have gained much in engaging and putting effort into them.

My tutor’s critiques and suggestions were invariably measured, helpful, detailed, and incisive. With his guidance, I was able to see stones I left unturned and improve my work considerably in many areas. It was a privilege to work with him.

I am thankful that I discovered and took this gem of an opportunity to study at ICAL.

Before signing up with ICAL, I researched current understanding and practices in teaching English as a second or foreign language. After comparing the offerings of on-line learning options, the ICAL course seemed to best encompass these theories and practices. The lessons were thorough and covered information one needs to know to enter diverse teaching situations. The assignments were challenging, in that they encourage the student to think and reflect beyond the lessons in developing an understanding of teaching methods, classroom situations, and the very practical side of teaching and being a teacher. My tutor provided excellent feedback on each assignment. She offered thoughtful suggestions to encourage me to consider ways to deepen my understanding and build on knowledge gained throughout the course. I am highly impressed with the response time when I contacted her, especially considering the 9-hour time difference between us.

I found the course to be both challenging and stimulating and although I took so long over my assignments that one of my teachers actually retired, this is not of detriment to ICAL – on the contrary, it speaks volumes for their understanding of the needs of ordinary people, who have to combine full-time working with teaching studies, which in order to excel, requires realistic assignment time targets.

The course itself was varied and enlightening. The quality of the teaching methods, forums and back-up materials along with regular newsletters, ensured that every student had not the slightest excuse to to be critical of the tasks required.

I was immensely impressed with the quality of the teachers too and Miri, who guided me through the bulk of the course was extraordinarily good. She never gave me an easy ride but her constructive criticism of some of my work and the lucid way in which she articulated my errors ensured I quickly comprehended where I was going wrong and was able to move on with renewed vigor and conviction.

Where there is a will there is a way as they say, and thanks to ICAL I found it!

As a recent college grad, ICAL helped me see a classroom from a teacher’s perspective rather than that of a student. I found the course material challenging and applicable to my work in the classroom. I also appreciated that I could work at my own pace. I started working overtime at my university in China about halfway through the ICAL course and took nearly four months off. When I started back up again, my tutor was helpful and forgave my extended hiatus. My tutor was excellent — his critiques and suggestions were always helpful. In addition, he was quick to respond and had detailed and sincere answers to my questions. The ICAL course helped me to be more prepared and confident in my teaching ability as well as being more aware of my students needs and expectations.

I actually rated ICAL 5 all across the board. I was already teaching in South Korea, but I signed up before I went. The flexibility allowed me to take my time to complete the course. It was almost too good to be true. ICAL is both challenging and inexpensive. As an EFL teacher, the challenging aspect and the easy flow of the modules are extremely beneficial. Teaching will always be challenging and the best way to be prepared is to push yourself in the training process.

I literally have no complaints about ICAL. I thought it was great to have access to the Wiki’s…it’ll keep me engaged, especially once I begin to forget some of the learning material –I could always go back to my PP modules and online wiki to brush up on the knowledge.

I definitely recommend ICAL. The previous reviews already covered everything. The reviews are positive for a good reason… I hope ICAL maintains it’s current business and teaching formula. It’s working!

I went to ICAL six years ago and it has allowed me to teach English in 4 different countries. I loved it and they didn’t charge me what normal schools usually do. It’s a great way to get a degree on a small budget in what you love doing.

The course has improved my teaching. It provided me with the knowledge I needed to teach my students. In the beginning, my students didn’t show any interest in learning English. The modules helped me to adjust my methods of teaching. Since then, my students have started showing interest in the language. Till today, they are still having fun in my class.

I’m very grateful to my tutor, Ellen, who guided me patiently through the whole course. Her detailed comments and suggestions had helped me a lot in my research and to think along the right path throughout the course. I’m very grateful to her!

I’m glad that I’ve chosen ICAL and it didn’t cost me a bomb to have a TEFL certificate.

The course was very interesting and it was also challenging. I have a lot of teaching experience but I learned quite a bit from this course. The modules are well written and informative. They contain quite a lot of practical information as well as theory. The assignments required a lot of research, which I really enjoyed. I found the comments from my tutor Jay to be very helpful and insightful. He helped me to understand the fundamentals of teaching ESL and how these are different from regular classroom teaching.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this course but I have to say that I am very satisfied with every aspect. I believe it will benefit my teaching and I highly recommend it to anyone with a TESL interest.

Impressive and comprehensive for a beginner-student teacher candidate like myself. There are limitations to how much material you can present, but the lessons did offer the opportunity to “fill in the blanks” ourselves, which enhances the learning process, doesn’t it?
Sheila was awesome, very patient and helpful in guiding me along the course path. I began not really knowing how to “think” like an instructore, but she lead me throughtout the material, and I progressed because of that kind and caring quidance.

I will return to enroll in an additional course in the near future!! Thanks again ICAL and Sheila Corwin.

Taking this course was better than anything I could have expected. The course content was spot on and my tutor was outstanding. Being that this was my only formal teaching training, I found this course to be everything I needed to be successful in any classroom. I am currently teaching in the U.S. and have implemented almost everything I learned from this course into my daily teaching to become extremely effective. My coworkers have noticed my improvements and I have been offered many teaching positions in more than one district. However my goal is to teach abroad and so that is where I plan to end up.
I give my highest recommendation to anyone thinking about taking this course. For the money you will get a better education than most do in four years in a University. I can honestly say that I am much more confident in my abilities from applying the principles learned in this course. I have also created a reference from the course material that I can always refer to. I took this course because of its high ratings and I am truly grateful I did. This course will challenge you to think in ways you may have never done and will expand your awareness of what great teaching is.
Thank you ICAL!

I just finished my Certification course with ICAL and I cannot wait to get my first assignment. I have no teaching experience other than Private tutoring of such subjects as Science, History, Accounting, Law and medicine. I am hoping I get to put those Chinese, Russian and Arabic language classes to use. My tutor Larry was an Alif (a+) teacher. He answered all my question no matter how weird they were and he responded to them just as quickly. I would greatly encourage those interested in traveling the world to enlighten students overseas to go after this program.

I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive about an online course. I had taken several online courses in college, but there was no way to visit the ICAL facilities and judge the quality for myself. ICAL had come recommended on a website, but who knew? I signed up and sent my money in, hoping that I wasn’t making a mistake.

It quickly became apparent that the course was solid and that Scott, my tutor, was the real deal. Both were excellent at pinpointing what I needed to learn and what knowledge I already had that could be refined. I believe that I began to THINK like a teacher. The fact that this happened in just 100 hours is nothing short of amazing.

The course works in a kind of “trial by fire” method; not teaching theory, but rather, practical application. It makes you start preparing lesson plans almost immediately, and corrects you as you go. Scott is a teacher himself, and his encouragement and enthusiasm are excellent examples of how to treat other students.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone.

At the time, I chose this online TEFL course because it had the most feedback in terms of number of reviewers and raves. That was a year and a half ago.

After finally completing this course, I have to say it was worth it. For the price ($265) and the number of hours earned (100), it was good value for the money.

In terms of the course material, it was spot on. You go through 5 modules with online quizzes as checkpoints related to each module. Once you pass the quiz to a module, you download a pdf on the website that gives you instructions for an assignment that is to be done in writing, usually on a word document that is to be completed and submitted to a personal tutor that you have contact with through the online course. The tutor is probably the most valuable asset to this course. You can e-mail your tutor any questions, and he or she will assist you in a reasonable time period. Say for example you submit an assignment, your tutor will respond back within 3 days with very thorough feedback highlighted in a different color addressing each section of your assignment. My tutor did a great job of affirming my correct work while gently rebuking my incorrect work with positive alternatives and suggestions.

As for the modules themselves, they focus on the four main language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. By the time you get to the fifth module, you’ll have to prepare a full blown lesson plan using all four skills. It’s a daunting fifth module, but with your knowledge gained from the prior four modules and with a moderate level of self-motivation, you should be able to knock it out successfully. The modules cover everything imaginable: grammar and punctuation, pronunciation, preparing a syllabus, organizational use of the whiteboard, methods of teaching, ways to motivate a class, how to teach classes with different numbers of students and gender ratios as well as age differences in the same class, focusing on lesson targets, concept checking, praise and reinforcement, formal testing, correction, self-correction, supplementary material, drills, controlled practice, free practice, and sub-skills such as skimming, scanning, predicting, inference, listening for detail. And much more.

The course will probably take you between 1-3 months depending on your level of work ethic and dedication towards completing it. I finished 4 of the 5 modules in 1 month, but never got passed the 5th one because I got hired to teach in Korea right before I completed it. And since the school in Korea that hired me was indifferent to having a TEFL qualification, I never had a sense of urgency to continue on with the class. I should have though, as I would come to find out a year later when I decided to resume where I left off that I had to pay a $50 renewal fee if there has been no progress in the course in over 12 months. But even still, I learned a lot, and particularly more this time around after finishing the 5th module because I could constantly relate the course work to my classes that I taught in Korea for that year.

Even though my school was indifferent to a TEFL qualification (because it paid one of the highest starting salaries of any hagwon in Korea), most schools will look at a TEFL qualification with raised brows, and it could get you an extra 100K to 200K won raise when doing salary negotiations in Korea. Aside from monetary benefits, the course did help me improve my teaching skills. Make sure to reference back to the material when coming up with new ideas for lesson plans in your classes, as you could easily get caught up in your own routine without thinking about using what you learned. Utilize what you learn!

So, I picked this course because it had the most reviewers, and there seems to be a good reason why – It’s the best out there.

Overall, I definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a resume builder and enhance their skills in teaching English as a foreign language.

I recently finished this course – last week actually! – and definitely enjoyed it! The course itself can be done fairly quickly (I did mine within about a month – give or take) so that’s pretty important if you’re on a time constraint. Though of course, everyone finishes the program in their own time.

What I enjoyed most about the course was the one on one help I received from my tutor (and the fact that you can are sent a selection of tutors – I had two – based on a questionnaire you fill out in the beginning. So any tutor you get will have some similarity to you – which is great! I enjoyed how thorough and personable it was). Because of my own time constraints, I loved how quickly my tutor got back to me with corrections on the assignment. His comments always proved useful and they gave me a deeper understanding of the module in terms of what I missed or didn’t understand.

Another great thing was the expediency of each correction: within 3 working days, my tutor got back to me (and sometimes much faster than that!).

Ultimately, I really liked this TEFL course because it gave me a lot of insight into what it might be like as a teacher. I’ve never handled a classroom on my own before, and the course definitely opened my eyes to what it would be like as one. (For instance, I had no idea how hard or thorough lesson planning was until I had to do it!). The modules also force you to be creative in coming up with new ways to teach students, instead of just relying on old, or rehashed methods. I thought this part was great, and it’s something you get slightly better at as the modules continue. When I first started, I had NO idea how to be creative in my teaching approach and this TEFL course helped me explore new ideas.

But aside from the TEFL class itself – the administration for ICAL is really top-notch. I loved how responsive and thorough each admin was, and got back to me fairly quickly. This is so fantastic. I love good customer service, and ICAL is right up there. If you’re having any problems, or need a question answered – then they’re right there to help you.

The only reason I haven’t given a score for Job Placement is because I haven’t used ICAL (yet!) in this manner. Hopefully, one day I will but for now, I can’t comment on it.

So if you’re looking for a thorough – but not too long course – with great admin support then ICAL is the best! And the price – $265 – makes it fairly affordable as well; if that’s an important factor for you.

(I didn’t spend a lot of time in the forums or connecting with other TEFL takers, so I can’t comment on that. But their TEFL wiki is really cool and goes into great detail. There were so many things about English grammar that I never knew! Heh.)

I have finished my ICAL course last week, and I wanted to say that I have found it very informative and I also felt proud of myself after every assignment. I have been already teaching English in Italy for several years, and I had suddenly decided to do something just for myself, and that is to get a certification that qualifies me as an English mother tongue teacher. I have chosen ICAL thanks to a friend that has talked to me about it in a very positive way.
This course has helped me more to understand how I can improve myself as a teacher.
I have enjoyed the assignments, and also appreciate my tutor Sheila’s help.
I also appreciate the price and the fact that I could do it in my spare time, without rushing, and that I have always got my corrections back at times even before three working days.
Sheila’s comments on my assignments have all been very precious. I now feel more confident in my abilities as a teacher also thanks to these. Reading comments such as: good, good idea, well done and others have meade me feel that I’m doing the right thing.
I thank Sheila and all ICAL administration for the help I’ve recieved during this course.
I now really feel like an EFL teacher, and I highly recommend ICAL!

I finished the course three weeks ago. I did it at my own pace, which was nice. I found it very interesting and full of useful information for new teachers or old teachers who want to improve their teaching skills.
I liked how the course touches various aspects of teaching, like correcting grammatical errors errors, developing a syllabus, lesson planning, classroom setup, and classroom management, to mention a few. The course gives enough details on all the aspects with enough extra resources, such as the ICAL TEFL WIKI and the assignment help page, to help you do your assignments. I found these to be quite relevant to my classes. I realized where some of my previous classes went wrong and how I could improve in my future classes.
My tutor’s comments were very positive and detailed and helped me see where i made mistakes. All my assignments were returned on time.
I’m also quite happy with the ICAL admin. All my emails were responded to promptly and all my questions or concerns addressed.
Thank you ICAL and good luck to all who wish to take the course.

It was Golda Meir who said that “Ability hits the mark where presumption overshoots and diffidence falls short.”

Yes! She couldn’t have said it any better. When ignorance like darkness veils your eyes with its many shadows, your ability to see clearly diminishes . You move around with this illusion, overshooting your goals. You know, near-misses every time.

Then one day, awareness like the rays of the sun graces your eyes, penetrates and melt the scales that blinds you. And you begin to see with astounding clarity your goal and the tools latent within you that will help bring out the best in every student that passes through you.

I’m glad I took this course. I believe that it worth every second that I spend on it. The cost? Negligible especially when you compare it with the benefits you will see in the end.

For any individual that have chosen teaching as his or her own path, I recommend you take this course. If not for anything, let it be to dare yourself and see whether those abilities you presume that you have holds true or not.

Take this journey! You will love every part of it especially if you have by your side, a Tutor as mine. He is indeed a Teacher! When you come out of the tail-end of it, you will be amaze at how much you didn’t really know.

I’m a high school teacher in the Caribbean, with an MA in Education, who wanted to do a TEFL/TESOL for years because my students seemed to have difficulty learning English although it’s their first language. After finally researching and doing nothing for a year, I decided to read reviews of courses in 2011.

I shortlisted three – ITTO, ITTP and ICAL…needless to say, I chose the latter based on the reviews on this site, the tutor profiles, the cost – (I especially liked the choice of different currencies), the FAQ on the ICAL site, and the course content (modular and sequential). It was superior to the other courses and very objective..I didn’t feel pressured into enrolling.

The pre-registering Q&As were priceless, it seems everything was covered and answered. My rationale for choosing a tutor was ‘someone whose name is close to mine or who I felt I resonated with. I chose Ellen, not only for name but she has over 30yrs experience in the field and beyond.

From my first to final assignment she offered invaluable suggestions and her comments assisted with the course, and I could use them in my daily teaching – so my students and I were benefitting from day one. My confidence level soared because it was MY work, my ideas, my creativity that was supported by Ellen.

Initially, I thought there wasn’t enough information to complete the assignments, but this was a good thing because it forced me to research further. additionally, I knew the structure of the modules so I was prepared to do extra work for high grades and adding to my knowledge pool.

I really enjoyed the course, and as a spin off, I’m now thinking of a second Masters or PhD in linguistics – focussing on Haitian creole and its influence on the English speaking Caribbean, which stems from the research from Module 1 and observing my students language acquisition.

If you’re looking for a course that will challenge you, this is for you. It’s not a fast track to TEFL/TESOL. It’s a well thought out course with expert tutors, and almost instant feedback. It delivers what it says.

I may or may not teach abroad, but at least I’m equipped and prepared to do so -and continue using it in my classes.

Thanks ICAL you’ve truly prepared me for life, and I share the knowledge with my colleagues on my tiny island in the Caribbean. You may soon get an influx of students from my island as we have many non-English speaking students coming to our schools.

I currently live in Bangkok, Thailand and teach English at the Baptist Student Center. The certification was not a requirement however the course proved very helpful for me as I interact with the students. The material gives great insight into “live” situations in the classroom. There may be instances when you have to create your own material. ICAL helps facilitate that as well as provides as resource for the future with student access to their student center. Further, the tutor I had gave very concise, prompt, helpful feedback on my assignments. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the course, usefulness and relevance. Great job! Keep doing what you are doing to better equip teachers to do their job with excellence.

Recently I have done ICAL TEFL 120 hrs online course . Initially I was not so confident about it but gradually as the programme started I start realizing it was worth doing . My tutor guided me wherever I was not up to the mark and polished me with the sparkles of her suggestions. And when I received my certificate , mark sheet and experience (as a student) letter in my hand it was “The latest happiest moment of my life ” and I would suggest my friends that you may go for it and feel the difference yourself . You will definitely learn something . Education or learning from anybody who knows better than you never goes wasted. This is my personal experience that I have enjoyed doing this course . As this course is online I have not opted for teaching students in real situation but yes lesson plans were drafted and everything was taken into consideration (as if next moment I have to hand over that plan to somebody who is going to teach in that class; everything has to be detailed / clear enough leaving behind no doubt ).

I’ve been working in Japan teaching for the past 3 years. My college degree is in business but I wanted to get qualifications so I could continue to teach abroad and improve the quality of my lessons. I decided to sign up for the ICAL 120 hour course based on the other reviews that I’d seen online. This course was great! There’s so many resources here that really helped me when I was struggling to look for ideas for assignments. I can also use a lot of these materials to help me with my daily lessons. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to get their teaching qualifications.

My personal tutor for the course was great and gave me lots of very detailed advice. If I needed to make corrections, his instructions were very clear and easy to understand. Most importantly, he did it in a way that inspired me to push myself to do better. Overall, I have no complaints.

Having just recently completed this course I have no hesitation at all in highly recommending ICAL Online to anyone thinking about become a TEFL teacher. It is not only affordable but excellent value for money. Right form the onset you are assigned a personal tutor. My tutor was amazing. She helped me focus on what was required; she guided me when I, sometimes, lost my way; she prompted me to think wider, bigger and encouraged me all the way, right to the end. Feedback on the work I submitted was excellent; fast and thorough. There’s nothing worse than submitting an assignment then having to wait ages for the result; with ICAl Online the response was always within a couple of days; sometimes earlier. This course is very comprehensive and the handouts, notes etc. can be kept as reference guidelines afterwards. I found the whole process, straight-forward, enjoyable, interesting and stress-free. I now feel ready to start my first TEFL job – Thank you ICAL!

Words fail me to express my appreciation for ICAL TEFL for their help and support. I did the ICAL CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) course with them in June, and I was very pleased with the administration as well as my tutor who was über-supportive and informative. It’s worth mentioning here that ICAL is almost the only TEFL provider who offers that unique course (CALL). Generally, I’m delighted to have been given the chance to do the course after spending months and months looking for such a teacher training programme. I’m now a better teacher who applies modern technology in his ESL classes and many thanks go for ICAL, both the admin and my tutor. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, ICAL.
