Global TESOL College Review by Chuck Birkenstock, March 16, 2009
Practical, hands-on, good manual (textbook), clear instructions. Personal feedback, professional teacher and overall service. Perfect balance: A lot crammed into the seminar but not overwhelming. Felt like I grew but wasn’t stressed out. The best part was: When I started teaching at a uni in Yanji, China, they asked for some degree they could copy. I didn’t have any papers of the Bachelor’s degree I had done decades ago. Finally I produced the Global TESOL College Certificate (I hadn’t even considered giving them that because they wanted to see an actual degree) and they were totally satisfied with that! I know it won’t always work that way in life, but I was impressed that the Global TESOL College certificate could be trusted enough to take the place of a degree.
I think anyone considering ANY of these courses has to know, of course, that this is not a high-felutin’, Bachelor’s-like degree. You get what you pay. You WANT to get what you pay, if you know what I mean. You don’t WANT to do a thesis or a paper on a theory. You want hands-on English stuff quickly. I found myself signing up for professional development courses as the years went by, but that initial TESOL certificate was fun and useful.
So ***** in all the above areas doesn’t mean it’s the perfect course as in the only teaching course you’ll ever feel like taking in your life. Instead, in my opinion, it’s all or more than you asked for for the PRICE. Does this make sense?

Global TESOL College will provide you with the materials to get your TESOL Certificate, which is not globally recognized, however you will be responsible for educating yourself and for finding your own job. Your certificate is not valid to teach in Canada, and the only countries you will be able to teach in overseas, without a university degree, are China or South America. You will not get any help in finding or securing the job, and if you call to ask for help, they will direct you to Dave’s ESL Cafe or other popular TESOL job sites. The company has no influence or contacts overseas.
If you are studying online or by correspondence and require assistance with your work, you will not get any as their tutor is too busy to deal with you. The only thing you are required to do to get your certificate is take the online, open book exam, and you will receive your certificate even if you do not pass. The manuals and exams are poorly written and you are not getting much for your money. All in all, this is not a good company to go with, as you are essentially going to end up with an expensive piece of paper that will do you no good. If you are truly serious about teaching overseas, look into CELTA or one of the clinics.
